Ok, I understand this now, and probably will use it myself, especially in the next version when I hope to track last played and play count in the database like the Music plugin does and I give priority to songs that haven't been played for a period of time.

The way I plan on coding this is I will modify tkgafs mode (the tkgafs-pz1 hybrid) when you are in an Album view, (albums on the left) and you start tkgafs random play (Red when configured for Random All/All or Random All/All from the menu). Randomising will queue all titles for one random album+artist keeping track order and ignoring playlist time limits, and then loop to another album if repeat mode is enabled. I haven't decided what I will do with songs that don't have an album name, I probably will just skip them.

Now you can enjoy Matthäuspassion but I am not sure this will work for the Der Ring des Nibelungene.

Well that wouldn't work for me anyhow; I am not a Wagner friend.
I am looking forward to this new feature. I'll see to complete my album titles in the meantime.

Re MVP instability: I have made a little progress. I had ML3 running for more than 12 hours while in library mode, or in GBPVR mainmenu. So it seems my setup is physically stable. Also in mainmenu the updating of the screen as new songs are started does not cause instability. However in playlist view I still observe both spontaneous reboots of MVP, and sometimes it does not reboot, but sound disappears and the counter underneath album art continues to be updated (not tested with the last 3 versions). Unfortunately I do not have much time at the moment to sit and watch for MVP to crash. But I do have more focus of where the problems are.

Martin,
I tried to play a "shuffled" playlist by hitting the red button on the NMT. It plays 1 song, but if you hit next, it ends the playlist. If you switch to the now playing view it does show a newly shuffled list, but it does not correspond to what is actually playing.

I have no doubt that playing for an m3u playlist is the most unstable part of ML3 right now primarily because I never use it. I will look a bit but it never will be a well tested as library play.

@leaded1 sorry I don't support anyone using Weather2 right now, so if you could disable it and try the test again I will have a look.

the m3u feature is not that big a deal for me, I think the collections feature is actually a better fit for the way I listen. but I'll try the random m3u again with weather 2 disabled.

Don't bother trying, I found that it doesn't work very reliably at all. I'll probably need to work at it a bit, even though it probably isn't working in ML2 either.

Here's an update with "pz1" mode implementing Random Album Play. Random All/All (tkgafs) mode will play entire albums in track order when the Album View is on the left. At the end of the album a new random album will be queued if configured to generate a new playlist. Also from Album views on the Home/Menu key now shows "Random Album"

Several changes on the Playlist screen too

- Ctrl-R/Red on playlist name will properly shuffle the playlist
- Will not attempt to reload playlist at end
- Playlist time show on the playing screen
- A few misc improvements but the code probably needs to be looked at in detail.

Also I changed Playlist.xml on the Blue Screen, I was getting an error on

<DrawCommonImage name="PlayViewNormalItemBackground"/>

not being defined.

I really like the random album option it works well

extending this further, could I request the following

If I am in tkgafs mode Random All/All could I press a button on the remote to queue the whole album, which the currently playing track is from, ideally inserted next in the playlist, but I would imagine at the end would be simpler

thanks again

Great! Its running here. You can faster update the code than I can update the version number in my signature.
Its running here. I started and stopped soem 15 times. changed collections in between. Seems to do what it must. This functions is great in combination with the norandom.txt!
Have as yet to see how the "start next album" works.

Thanks,
Pieter

I havent posted in a bit, just thought Id say Im keeping up with the nightlies, and things seem to play well on the MVP so far. This is surely becoming a great tool.
One thing Ive noticed, sometimes when I cue an album and switch over to the playlist mode.. the current track running time (just below the picture area) is sometimes way off. Like, it might show 3:14:26 as the track starts. Maybe Im reading this wrong and its showing me something else ?
