Back to the original question, about capabilities, etc. There is some information buried in the Wiki that might help. See:

Oh, well, I've put me order in then.

Has anyone looked at the beta software version for the MVP, that is suppose to be able to natively play divx's??

I'm also looking to find out the capabilities/drawbacks of a mediaMVP/GBPVR setup. However, I don't want to purchase the mediaMVP if they will be releasing a new model soon that will have greater capabilities (like wireless).

Does anyone have any information about the new mediaMVP? When will it be released, will it have hardware mpeg4 decoding, will it be wireless G, etc?

I've looked all over and the only info I could come up with was that it would be released in october of 2005 (didn't happen) and the only added feature would be support for wireless B (not wirless G....ouch).

Two features that I would love to see in the new mediaMVP:
1. wireless G
2. component output
3. divx client decoding (not on the server)

Last time I asked Hauppauge they indicated it was pretty much the same hardware with 802.11G/B integrated. No new divx hardware support, or component video, or anything like that.

It doesnt natively support divx, instead their newer software includes components to do server side transcoding to MPEG2 - much like GB-PVR does.

Yeah, it'd be a bit of squeeze. You might be ok with that spec on the GB-PVR transcoding since you have quite a bit of control over the bitrate etc.

From memory, the Hauppauge software recommends a P4 2.4Ghz for divx playback.

Thanks for the info on the new mediaMVP.

Sub, are there any plans for supporting other mediaMVP-like devices that offer more features (component out, mpeg1/2/4 hardware decoding, wireless)?

No, I've already got far too much on my plate for the immediate future.
