Going to test recording wide span and see what happens?

  1. Main concern is timeline problem
  2. Video Quality on CBS station
  3. ComSkip Is disabled in GBPVR Config and no trace of it in GBPVR folder

Tipstir, you're a brave man - I agree the timeline problem is IMHO *the* biggest issue at the moment. I have had some success (too early to say) by uninstalling the WHOLE LOT of hauppauge software and reinstalling from the ground up, but I'll be v. interested in your results....

good luck!

What is this timeline problem I keep hearing about? I don't see any problems seeking etc. and even with the huge number of MCE users using these cards you don't see any complaints on TGB forum.

Are you using Hauppauge Tweak Tool or something? Some versions of that used to set incorrect settings.

If you tell me exactly:
1) How to repro the problem
2) How to identify the problem (symptoms)
3) Which software exhibits this problem
I will ask the engineers to look into it.

Any reason in particular that you mentioned CBS? The reason I ask is that is the one channel that records the worst on my system. Both my GBPVR machine with the PVR150 via A/V cables from cable box, and my backup machine with the original WinTVPVR-PCI card as a tuner.

Chris....I see this timeline issue as well. I rarely got it in the past but after replacing one of my PVR-150 with a PVR-500 I see it fairly often. No way to reproduce it that I can figure out. It just happens. Sometimes I go a week and no problems other times it is everyday.

You may see a one hour show have an imbedded timeline of 10 minutes, 1 second, 39 minutes or any other random time you want to think of. Same thing can happen with 1/2 hour shows or 2 hour shows....the issue does not discriminate based on time.

The show itself is fine.....it plays the proper length of time....it just reports an invalid timeline. If you fast forward you can go through the recording without any problem....but if you try to skip...forget it sometimes you go backwards sometimes it takes you right to the end.

I was working with Happage Tech support and got the following message which in effect ended their efforts with me. I was very surprised about the response but....there it is.....

Any help you can shed on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

We do not support multiple tuners in one system so our experience with multiple tuners has been limited to random testing and tech demos. User groups and forums would probably supply you with more info. The times when we have tried multiple tuners we have not seen that problem.

The timeline issue isn't multiple tuner related either. I have but one lowly 150, and it wasn't until I switched to the 23035 drivers that others recommended that I got rid of my problem. The earlier and later drivers I tried all had the trouble, and it was terribly frustrating.

I've finally gotten rid of it so I'm afraid to touch anything.

Steps taken

  1. Ran HCWCLEAR.exe (twice to remove prior drivers 12/14/2005 2.0.35.23348)
  2. Ran CCLEANER.exe (registry issue and cleaner)
  3. Rebooted PC
  4. Prompted by XP it found New Hardware
  5. Selected to load from another location (server download folder) for each card

Is this the best way to remove and reinstall your 150 drivers?
I'm running an older driver version (not sure what it is) and I have no problems. I'm about to add a 150mce to my PVR I'm not sure weather to use the drivers on the disk or the latest and greatest listed in this thread. Should both the 150 retail and the 150 mce have the same drivers?

Suggestions are appricated.

Could it be some kind of PCI related thing, causing corrupt/truncated data to be received from the card? If the PCI bus is really slow (or saturated) you might be able to get a few of the transfers across complete, but the cumulative effect of each packet being delayed could possibly result in corruption if it goes on long enough? Just a theory.

If you experience it, can you please list:
1) What motherboard you are using
2) How many PVR-150 cards you are using
3) What other PCI cards you have installed
4) If you are using a SATA hard drive

That was my guess.....I noticed when I first installed the PVR-500 there was some sort of PCI Stearing driver installed...I assumed it has to do with the dual tunners on the PVR-500.

Here is the info you requested:

Motherboard Name MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025)
1 PVR-150
1 PVR-500
No other PCI cards installed
Serial ATA Western Digital WD500JD

I am by no means a hardware egg-head.....but I am wondering if the way my cards are registered on the PCI bus may cause a delay which in turn causes an invalid internal timeline.

Attached is a shot of how my PVR150 and PVR500 show in my hardware manager. Notice that the PVR500 actually rides on top of the PCI bus that the PVR150 runs off of. Could the communication be experiencing a delay hoping from the PVR500 to the PVR150?

Also attached is a layout from my motherboard manual showing how the PCI bus and interupts are setup...currently I have my PVR150 in slot 5 and PVR500 in slot4. Could I benefit from moving the PVR500 to slot1 perhaps?

Any input or thoughts appreciated.

UncleJohnsBand, I have no idea what you are talking about, it's all above my head, but I hope you are right. The solution sounds simple.
