I'm not having much luck at all. When I first fire up the MVP it has the 4 squares that slowly fill green from left to right then goes to the main menu. I have all my plugins on submenus off the main menu. When I select one of the buttons on the main menu the top fourth of the screen turns green then everything goes black and I get the white squares agin at the top. They slowly fill green from left to right then the screen goes back to the main menu. If I try it again the screen goes black with the white squares then the left square turns red and I'm done. The only way to get it back is to pull the power plug and restart the service. I seemed to get farther when I initially upgraded and hadn't set any MVP specific parameters ie screen position. I'm going to keep playing with it when I have time. If you need any logs or try specific things let me know. One MVP is hooked up through S-Video and the other is RCA.

groover km Wrote:I have reverted to dongle.bin, but I played with it for a while and saw the same problems that Lucas_24 described; in addition, it was far more unresponsive on key presses than dongle.bin, but hey, it's vers. 0.0.1, right? Sometimes coming out of live tv / video it fell back to the four boxes but eventually reconnected.

In addition, when I turned it off (with the remote) and then turned it back on, the front LED illuminated, but nothing happened. All my gear (MVP included) goes through an auto-sensing A/V selector, and that wasn't detecting a video output from the MVP* and requires me to pull the MVP plug.

* This may be unique to me, as for some reason I have to use a TFTP server to initially shove the .bin file to the MVP; I don't know if this is related to this. I'll be interested to see if anyone reports a similar experience.

My experience was very much identical to Lucas_24s and groover_kms.
The biggest problem being the MVP showing no video when turned off and on after a powercycle. The menu works as normal, as i can hear the audio, but there's no video displayed.
My MVP is a european one, with SCART connector.
I don't know if you are familiar with that, but using scart there's a signal line telling the tv to switch over to this scart-connected device.
When i power on the mvp the first time after a powercycle/dongle-download/power-off this signal is not set, so the tv doesn't switch over to the MVP channel.
After the MVP has connected to GBPVR and the main menu should show up, the MVP sets that signal and makes the tv switch over to the MVP channel, but there's no video displayed. (Just a black screen, with my TV displaying "no signal")
The GBPVR menu works normal though and i can hear the audio. (i think i mentioned that already Big Grin)

I would love to test that dongle further, but i don't like to powercycle the MVP everytime i want to watch.

One little thing i want to add is, when using inset video, which i LOVE to see, and navigating through menus, if i use the "Back/Exit" button the video stops playing. If i return to the main menu using the "Menu"-button it doesn't stop.

I love the idea of writing your own dongle for the MVP, and i love the inset-video thing. Very impressive to me, excellent job sub, keep it going!

This is basically word for word what happens with mine also. I think that my MVPs are NOT all the same version, I'll check and if they are not, I will test on different versions. I will post my MVP version if you think it is needed info.

It worked for me except if I turned off the MVP. I initially unplugged the MVP and let the new bin take over. It worked well until I turned off the MVP and then turned it on again. When you turn it on, the red light comes on but the TV screen is black. It is like it has changed to the composite connector (from the S-video connector that I set in the configuration--I haven't connected to composite connector). To get it working again, I have to pull the plug to reset the MVP.

That's interesting - both my MVPs are connected via s-video. Maybe turning it off / on reset it to composite...?

The first time I tried it, it got stuck at bootserver. I opened config and just hit ok and the service started up. Everything was cooking beautiful. Fast forward worked like a charm. Reverse went in reverse but the picture didn't change. When I hit play, the video had reversed itself. I turned it off and while the red light went off and the video went black, the sound played for an additional 5 seconds. The MVP wouldn't turn back on. I switched to composite video but that didn't seem to make any difference. Unplugging it and plugging it back in twice got the MVP going again. Again I had to restart the config to get the MVP past the bootserver. It seems the screen in the MVP OSD flicker.

Once it works, I like it better. No crashes messing around with FF and Skip. No flicker in the show I watched either.

Finally After all has been tidy up (MUX change, Thanks again Sub) I had the chance to test GBMVP.BIN dongle.
I’ve been testing it for two hours last night and this morning for an half hour.
All went good. Surprised!
Yesterday I started two recordings and in the meanwhile I watched two recorded programs on the two MVP I have. No mess no stuttering no glitch nothing at all. All worked perfectly.
On MVP I noted the volume bar is showed up shorter than original MVP upon volume changes.
I was surprised because I red it wont be shown so I checked if it was playing the right dongle (GBMVP.BIN). It was!
And finally new dongle it’s faster than the Hauppauge original. I’ll continue testing this evening.

If you see a volume bar, then you're still using the original Hauppauge dongle. I'm guessing you didnt remember to physically remove the power from the MVP after setting it to use GBMVP.BIN.

As always you are right.
Changed the dongle (unplug the power from both MVP I have).
Now they are running two different programs one each while computer is running another. No problems at all.
The volume bar is not shown (OK or pitty? for me is unrelevant)
- Upon skipping back and forth on a recorded program is a bit unplease to have the video black for a while. Better was to still the image as the previous dongle did.
- The trasparency is too light making unreadable bar on the top and prog info on the bottom in certai cases.

Continuing....
