Hello,

350w may be pushing it. But if it worked on Linux then it should be ok.

Try setting your AGP speed to 4x in the bios.
I had a problem with a 9600 ati where the PC would lock up randomly then reboot.
Setting the AGP to 4x fixed my problem.

Also you could check what devices are sharing IRQ's in the post screen.
I've had stability issues because of which slot a card was plugged in.
Since Linux handles IRQ's differently it may not of mattered.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check those out too.

I hate to beg, but can someone please check my logs? My machine has not locked up so far, but I have noticed that the gbpvr recording service has died. I can see this in the syslog but it doesn't give me any additional data on to the cause.

I did look at your logs, but as I expected by your description of the problem, there was nothing worth reporting in there. It sounds like flakey hardware or drivers to me.

Thanks for your time. So the Gbpvr recording service dying is tied to the hardware/driver issue?

I was referring to the your comments about the machine locking up.

I doubt the recording service dying is the same problem. I did check your previous logs for the reason this was happening, but you're running an old version (v0.97.9) which does not report why the process was terminated. If you upgrade to the current v0.97.13, then post your logs immediately after it next happens, I'll look into it. The most common cause of this is users antivirus/firewall software crashing the process because it doesnt like .net remoting.

Just an update, it indeed was a hardware issue. I replaced the serial port card I had been using with a USB->Serial adaptor and I have not had a system lockup or GBPvr recording service error since. Thanks for all the help in troubleshooting this annoying problem.
