Try DriveImage XML...it got rave reviews on downloads.com and I've been using it for 3 days and think it rocks!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I forgot that Partition Magic would do new/resized partitions on the fly. I actually already own this program so I resized my windows partition to 20GB and setup the remainder of that drive as a data only drive.

Once I moved everything off of the new 20gb C: drive it was only holding about 5.9GB.

I downloaded a 30 day trial of Image for Windows. It really does run fast.

I was able to backup a full image of the c: drive to one DVD. I tried starting the pc with the disc in the drive and it booted from the disc (as it should). I didn't do a restore but I may go ahead and try one just to make this a complete test.

I am no computer pro but I have often wondered why PC's aren't setup with the operating system in a separate partition from all your data when they come from the factory. Maybe, there would be a program like noscript for Firefox that would prevent any changes on that drive without your permission.

Just rambling on... can you tell it's 4:am here and I can't sleep?

Just wanted to report back on my success with using Image for Windows...by Terabyte. Thanks again pBS and everyone else who replied.

I had a slight annoyance with something I had done on my GBpvr machine, after only 2 weeks since reinstalling windows, so I thought "here's a good time to test out Image for windows.

I had made an image disk (bootable CD) as soon as I had GBpvr installed and working properly.

I popped the disk in the drive and rebooted my PC. It took a lot longer than 5 minutes to run for me. I did pick to verify image when that choice was presented, maybe that was a mistake?

Anyway, once the imaging ran from the cd and I rebooted everything was back just like the day I reinstalled windows and GBpvr. Wonderful.

Cheers! Big Grin

MarkLP77,

when you use driveimage xml, do you run from a BartPE disk or do you run through windows? Backing up your OS while running the OS can cause some programs to crash - e.g. Nero.

Let me know, I just got a new install of windows running with GBPVR and I don't really want to muck around anymore without having a true recovery point.

thanks,
Jam.z
