Some more info: ffmpeg opens avs-scripts ok but I couldn't get it to work with on the fly encoding in gbpvr. Probably some parameter I should have changed. I use ffmpeg to encode these avs-scripts to mpg.

oh and mencoder can overlay the subs itself also...Smile
just add -slang xx for whatever the language is...
not sure what format your subs are in but it works fine for dvd's
and now ffmpeg can work with subs but it doesn't overlay them...
vlc can overlay the subs as well...Smile [but it's a bit slower]
and can be used with mvp..

dazza139 Wrote:If I play an avi without using ff, rw, or skip, then there is no AV sync issue when using mencoder on the fly. If I use any of these keys AV sync is lost. With FFMPEG I had AV sync problems regardless of whether I pressed any of these keys.

As said earlier, using the ff/rw keys cause this trouble often regardless of ffmpeg or mencoder.

But I have always had great success using ffmpeg to transcode. Sync always stayed bang on, unless I press the dreaded ff/rw...

I have noticed that if you transcode with a higher bitrates and other values, that the shuttling errors are fewer, but transcoding on the fly with the higher values was difficult...

The problem is actually inherent in having an MPEG viewer (the MediaMVP only natively displays MPEGs)

Maybe, Hauppauge will finally release a dongle that responds quicker, and allows for better shuttling...

(I still love it to bits the way it is..)

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...
