I have tried a lot using comskip to automatically mark commercials. It could not convince me. Quality of marks differs very much from channel to channel.

Could You add 1 or 2 lines of code to gbpvr so that you can mark beginning and end of commericals manually?

Marking commercials during the show would be a major pain, best to take some time and properly tune your comskip ini’s. Wink

Another option is VideoReDoPlus, Eric added VRD SceenMarkers to the latest versions of comskip and the markers make fine-tuning before archiving very simple. It’s impossible to beat a proper video editor when it comes to archiving, and as far as I’m concerned VideoReDo is the best.

PS, In my sig under VideoReDo Tools, there’s a utility called VRDSkip.
It allows VRD to automatically generate GBPVR compatible autoskip text files. It’s not as capable as comskip (when properly tuned), but VRD commercial skipping is very simple to tune.

Well, I disagree.

Sure, people who watch TV on their computerscreen will not need it, but I (and perhaps more people) am using just my TV and the remote. So videoredo or the comskip gui are no choice.
I started tuning comskip and I realized that it would be necessary to do this for every single channel (!). What will happen if the channel would change its way to send commercials? I would have to notice and change tuning.

To my opionion there are 2 kinds of users:
-users who have fun tuning, testing plugins, tryout new things
-user who just want to configure a PVR until it fits to their needs and from this point on just want to use it (i belong to those).

Well, I know this feature from other PVR software and saw that it was easy and conveniant to use. You watch a show and when commercials appear you press "pause" and some other key. Easy. Or even better: You have "proposals" from comskip and can adjust the marks.
This way it could be even possible to tune comskip with your remote!

But I understood that I have almost no chance...
But it is nice to talk about it with You all!

Unfortunately a simple feature does not necessarily mean a simple implementation. Ie. if you hit pause and a key to start the marker and forget to end it, what should the software do?

I agree in that it does sound like a nice feature.

Hm, I did not analyze the file comskip creates, but I f You forget to set the end-mark You would have a very long commercial...
Since those marks are being shown while watching the show, You would surely notice it.

I have used VRD, and it is a nice prgram. However i don't want to pay the money for that just to archive some shows ever now and then....it simply would not pay for itself. Now, if someone knows of a free application that is as good and easy to use as VRD, that would be great.

Searched long and hard, anyone have a good comskip ini file for UK freeview? Seems like a bit of a waste to make one myself when it's probably already been done.

I never had much luck with tuning comskip for my freeview shows, although I confess I have only spend a few hours working on it. The problem as I see it is that the gaps between many of the shows are now (deliberately) merged together with no black frames nor silence. logo detection doesn't work for the uk so i'm not really sure what comskip can lock onto.

So, it wouldn't be a waste for you to get comskip working properly cos if you did, you could let me have a copy!

Sounds like a challenge. Big Grin
Can someone mail me a .csv file generated with
output_framearray=1
and a edited .txt file showing the correct commercial start and stop frames?

I posted a guide on how to make this happen here. If you use comskip and a Hauppauge remote, it's possible to do it with your remote.
