This is great for those of us that don't get the icon field in our xmltv listings. I have it run in my UpdateEPG.bat. I hope that is OK, I'm not sure what the program does if the file already exists.

Think this could get expanded to also download movie covers? I'd think getting the DVD cover or something would be neat.

It would be a little more difficult than a TV show as the title field in the xmltv file contains the year of the movie, rating and stars (for those of us using the TVGuide Supercharger), i.e. the title "Groundhog Day (1993) {PG} [2.5*]" would need a file named "Groundhog Day (1993) {PG} [2.5 ].jpg"

Think this addition would be possible?

It should be okay to run in your updateEPG.bat, i don't see why not.
You may not want to run it everyday though, since it does take a long time to run, but it won't hurt either.
If the file already exists it just skips over it and goes onto the next show.

I was also thinking of movie images but i'm not sure how I could get them reliably. I'll keep thinking on it and I will let you know if I come up with anything.

Glad the program works well for you Big Grin

New version available.
Added a fix for shows with a ‘,’ in their name. Images would not download for these.

You can download the new version on the wiki at the ProgramImageTool page

Based on our discussion in another thread, here's a list of some of the programs I have in my Listing, but do not get an image for:

A-Team
Charmed
Walker, Texas Ranger
Seinfeld
Judging Amy
Desperate Housewives
Friday Night Lights
Bones
According to Jim
Medium
I Love Lucy

The list goes on and on...all of them have images on epguides.com and they seem to fit the naming convention (cast.jpg for all of the ones listed as far as I can tell). The ones I do get images for, like Scrubs, 24, South Park aren't named any differently. I tried to run it again from the command line with the /Y option to see if it would make a difference but it didn't. I also tried to redirect the output to a text file so you could review it but no go; is there an option for this? I simply tried "ProgramImageTool.exe /Y > images.log but it didn't create the text file.

Hope this helps you track it down...let me know if I can give you more info.

BTW: I am using the last version before the "," fix - Just so you know. Current GBPVR and TVListing versions, CommunitySkin. Images show up on a few shows as mentioned, so I know it's not the skin. There are only 85 program images in my Media/Art dir, many of those are dupes with spaces for the "*" work around. Can't think of anything else pertinent to the issue to add <G>

This seems very odd as I have many of those shows in my media/art folder.
The shows I do not have images for I do not have in my guide.
Also if I run this command
ProgramImageTool.exe > Images.log
then I get a log file with the output of the program.
I'm thinking there must be some sort of problem with the utility running on your comp.

Where do you run the program from? it should be run from within the gbpvr program files directory.
Are you using the sqlite database (gbpvr.db3)?

Also the Y option has been obsolete for the last 2 versions. I will update the wiki appropriately with this information.

When I run the program I get the following...

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr>ProgramImageTool.exe

Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentException: Invali
or parameter "Password"
at System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteConnection.ParseConnec
at System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteConnection.Open()
at EPGHelper.ProgramImageTool.Main(String[] args)

Obviously I'm doing something daft.

I thought it was odd too.

Could be, but it seems to behave normally enough; I get an output in my console window much the same as yours, except not as many matches Big Grin ...

Are you using the sqlite database (gbpvr.db3)?

Yes on both counts. In fact just to be sure I checked the last modified date on both dbs - the MS db reads 12/8/06, when I put this install in service, the SQLite db3 reads 1/10/06 - so it's definitely running the latter. And I keep the proggy in the default c:\devnz\gbpvr directory, which is where I run it as well. I know it's doing SOME work, because I get images for SOME of the shows.

I've also verified that if I manually create program images, for shows like The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, and put them in the gbpvr\media\art directory, they show up in TV Listings the way they should. I found a SQLite Analyzer on the net and ran an integrity check on the db and it came up fine, but you might have better tools than I.

I'd attach my zipped db3 file but it is a hair larger than sub allows on the board so I'll post a link to it here:

http://wilson2020.westofeast.com/drop/gbpvr.zip

Maybe you'll see something in it...in the meantime, I'll download the new version and give another try at generating a log file. If I could just manage that, I might even be able to figure out myself what is going wrong.

Again, I appreciate your support efforts.

Are you using sqlite as your database? this would be the gbpvr.db3 file in your install directory.

also could you try running the utility as follows
ProgramImageTool.exe > Images.log
and attach the Images.log file that is produced.
