Problem playing Ubustream over MediaMVP

I have been playing around with this without much success I'm afraid - once it worked, twice I have got audio no video, all other times nothing...

Would someone mind posting their vlc settings for me to copy?

If you got it to work "once" then your vlc settings are probably OK. The sample settings doc in the UbuStream config wiki page contains the ones I use.

As you can see from the rest of the thread, the timing settings for the External Recorder capture source can be crucial. Getting audio but no video is often a sign that the transcoding hasn't caught up with the player. The values you use for the "wait" fields, the speed of your CPU and the response time of the site serving the stream can all affect this. The vlc parms just specify the kind of transcoding you want, so the sample ones should work without any changes

In essence: if you can get a stream to play with vlc it should be recordable by External Recorder; if you can get it to work with External Recorder (via UbuStream's channel mode) and can view the stream channel in timeshift mode on your PC, you "should" be able to use your MVP to view it. But, as you can see from this thread, some tweaking may be required to get it to work predictably on some systems.

Thank you for the tip for increasing wait times in the config-recorders.xml file.

You didn't answer my question about the CPU you are using for GB-PVR but the long wait time you appear to need for MVP playback does suggest that more horsepower for the transcoding process might help.

I am using an Intel P4 2GHz machine with 512MB RAM. I am using a 100 Mb cross-over cable from the GB-PVR to my MediaMVP.

Sounds reasonable. I'm running a 2.26GHZ P4 and it seems to be adequate. However, I don't have a MediaMVP. I'd imagine that the faster your processor, the quicker the transcoding would occur and the shorter the wait time would need to be.

On the main MVP tab, there are also some wait settings. Turn these up as well. This allows VLC to start streaming to a file before the MVP tries to read it...

Unfortunately this creates a large fixed delay before play. I think I have a solution, basically to start the file with a pacifier video (can you picture an scratchy old time film leader 7... six... 5 ...4... 3.... ), then the streamed video appended right on to it. This gives you something to watch immediately, yet allows Ubustream/VLC time to connect and start recording. Havn't tried it yet, but I think I know how to coax VLC to do it.

Also, I've had good results adding the "audio-sync" option, to get rid of the annoying timing issues. I'll add it to the how-to, along with the MVP delay settings.

I couldn't get the leader idea to work with UbuStream, since UbuStreamCmd expects the first parameter to be a channel number :-(

I posted all my settings in the thread "Using UbuStream with MediaMVPs", now sticky (thanks Ubu!). I'll be keeping that up to date, as I improve my setup, until it's wiki-able.

Check out this new post. You should definitely try changing your acodec= setting and see if it helps.
