Well I guess, there's hardware for that: a motion-detector (my translation). So you would have to move your hand (or whatever) to start the system but it would close down the system when you fall asleep (or worseSad ).
I'm an electrician, me and my colleague are always making jokes to officeworkers that we should install something like that, so a lot of energy could be saved.Big Grin

nay, motion detection 's only the next best solution. imagine all the users out there with pets... and now image the dumb look of a cat/dog when tv is switching on just because they jumped on the couch doing some potatoing Big Grin
and the most difficult to handle would be to write a driver to get that damn OS to wake up upon signal...

actually no its not, since the OS doesnt respond to drivers in standby mode.. it impossible. however it is convenient that you can get something that will short the power pins when the motion detector goes off, thereby starting your computer

So you train your cat to turn your PC on. Problem solved.

... you see that is the creativity that makes gbpvr what it is, and what makes this forum so good.

Nowhere else would someone say "I know! Make it so that my cat can turn it on!"...

... and someone else say, "You know, maybe if..."

I love it. All we need now is someone to ask what kind of cat you are using and the trinity is complete. Smile

how do nic's & usb devices reactivate a computer? is it all done in hardware? i dunno...

don't have one & it's rather hard to train them, would rather get a dog, they are easier to train Big Grin

yeah its done in hardware, actually in BIOS, which is really all that is running when the computer is in standby, to keep the memory refreshed. it just waits for a signal from whatever your motherboard supports wake from.
