Jerry, for me it's a problem with the server. After a few enormous power bills I'm dropping it into standby overnight and I seem to have problems doing this when the MVP's are chattering to the server all the time.

Unfortunately, hibernate/standby does not cooperate all the time. I was having problems with this as well a few months back.

I was able to compromise by making the time to go to standby/hibernate short, as in 2-5 minutes of non-activity. Also, if you have several defined users, I replicate the power settings for each user. To also ensure no background activities, I make sure that users log off as well. Having the MVP left on would not have to much impact on your server not going into hibernate/standby.

It is most probably a background process going on. Check for using task manager or a free utility I use is WhatsRunning at http://www.whatsrunning.net.

P2P software, ITunes, LimeWire, Bittorrent are common culprits, turn off any of these software might help you solve it. Barebones is the way to go with hibernation. Good luck

As I said before: my system won't hibernate when/if ( ) the mvp is on.
As soon as I switch the mvp off (official standby I think) the system will hibernate after the period of time set in energy-settings.
When you read he logs you'll see that there is continuous traffic between server and mvp when it's "just" on.

Edit: To be sure I just tested again, guess what: my system hibernated nicely while the mvp was on:o . Maybe on other occasions it was still playing music or something, I don't know. So fhmanas you are probably right. Wink

95% of the time mine won't go into standby/hibernate with an MVP running.

OK a question - when does gbpvr send 'keepalive' to Windows to stop it going into standby?, recording - yes, viewing a recording?, navigating MVP menu's?, sat with a plugin on screen (weather?)?

Yes, it does - but only when a recording is in progress, or when the user is viewing video.

This is "physically possible" with the mvpmc dongle in emulation mode. Just point your browser to the MediaMVP's ip and find the button labeled "Power Off"

If you browser doesn't load mvpmc's internal web server, just assume it is off.

I am relatively new to GB-PVR and the MVP.... but when I use my Logitech remote to shut off the media center it shuts down the appropriate devices, i.e. Watch TV = shuts off receiver and TV, Watch MVP = shuts off receiver, TV and MVP, etc. As to reloading the dongle when I turn it back on I may be mistaken but all I get is a screen saying connecting to server(s) and in a few seconds I get the menu. I thought (?) when the dongle reloaded (like when initially setting up) there is a different screen. I may be wrong though.
