I will try another method of direct xml via the aspx page once I get these few bugs worked out....it is always good to have several ways to get the same info so long as code isn't dupliated.... ;-)
Actually, plenty of feeds are created without the .xml file, but you do need to set the appropriate content type if you are using the ASPX to create the feeds. That is what the readers rely on more than the file type extension.
A perfect example is the RSS capability of the GBPVR Wiki.

That feed is generated dynamically with a php script.
