Prepaid GSM phone SIMs in the USA? Channel showing Rugby world cup?

Just got off the phone with Cingular.
If you stop in a Cingular (now ATT) store they have prepaid sims that you can use in your phone. There are two plans that I know of:
.10 a minute, 1$ a day access charge for the days that you use your phone. mobile to mobile is free
.25 a minute, no access charge, .25 a minute mobile to mobile.

There are probably many stores other than the cingular, that carry these, especially in NYC.

For some reason the USA is still in the dark ages of cell phone technology. It seems like everytime I see an article online about a cool new phone, it's not available in the US or Canada.

My girlfriend is freaking out about the Rugby world cup too. Her sister is visiting this week from France and was horrified to learn she would not see the games.
