Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but I was really happy with the results from EVR for livetv and recordings, even though I run XP SP3. This ffwd/rew pause freezing during DVD or ISO playback is acting exactly the same for me as described above.

I was wondering if anyone did actually get EVR and DVD playback ffw/rew and pause to work in XP? If so, would you mind offering some pointers? I uninstalled NVidia PureVideo decoder since it was noted it was problematic but it did not help, same freeze of PVRX2.

Thanks!

I never made progress with this - had to use Cyberlink for Blu-ray playback and switched to using that for DVDs rather than GB-PVR -it does dolby digital without batting an eyelash, as well as Blu-ray. And it doesn't tear. Hours and hours of wasted time with GB-PVR and I never got it not to tear. (I have high hopes for Win7!) Also I got my Logitech Harmony One working with Cyberlink so all's good. Of course you have to change the PowerDVD skin to get rid of the terrifying woman with the teeth Big Grin

Same here with XP/EVR - everything else (PQ, jerkiness etc) works to total satisfaction - apart from navigation of video streams. It will jump forward/backwards eventually but it does so reluctantly, slowly and sometimes doesn't return control to the user at all...

...and before anyone suggests it, VMR9 has other (worse) issues I won't go into.

Thanks for the feedback! Well, I been trying so hard to get it to work that I musta screwed up my codecs. I cannot use VMR9 Custom and get marginal results with a little tearing. It is real bad now in QAM and DVD's. So I am sticking with EVR and XP.

To get around the freezing during playback, I am going to try re-doing the keymapping file for the DVD to use Replay and Skip for Rew/FWD. Pause and Play I am going to remap to use Exit or Menu. Using Exit/Menu sends me to the DVD Menu so when I use play on the DVD menu again it resumes from where it left off Wink

Thanks again for the replies! I didn't think it was possible with all the googling I did. Sad

I cannot redo the keymappings for DVD playback, can I?

Guys, do not use EVR on XP (same with VMR9 on Vista/Win7), you will not get any DXVA but only troubles.

Rules are simple:

Win XP: VMR9/VMR9FSE
Vista/Win7: EVR

I agree. I was suprised to see this old thread I started resurrected. I have more up-to-date hardware now with XP and Win7 in dual boot, and I still prefer VMR9fse on XP to EVR in WIn7. Mainly because in EVR I can't view the full guide without stopping play first - the OSD in EVR feels clunky, like using the old overlay renderer in XP. I don't see any advantage to using EVR - picture quality is tip-top in VMR, but it's all in the eye of the beholder.

My original question was if anyone got the DVD/ISO playback to fwd/rwd and pause in EVR, as did the original and other postings. This is not hardware related IMO, only the OS.

The point is I cannot get VMR9 Custom to work as it had after I tinkered with EVR. I cannot use VMR9 exclusive because I have custom plugins I do not want to give up. I feel the custom plugins fulfill my needs and I want to keep them. In VMR9 custom, I lost all my acceptable playback in QAM and DVD Playback.

I did not want to start another render/codec thread, there are plenty of them now.

Hoborg sent me a unlock on SAF so I am planning to try redo my codecs with his recommendations in hopes I do not have to start from a disk image from June, or a fresh install of an OS and GBPVR, and perhaps buying win7. I could have lived without full OSD if DVD/ISO playback wouldn't have halted if I hit a known remote button that freezes further UI. So i was wondering if there was a fix or a way to remove the mappings so the buttons could not be accidentally used. I am more worried that if someone is using my system and they freeze it, that they can do more harm by trying to unfreeze it before I get home. Big Grin

FYI, for some reason, in XP the EVR renderer looks GREAT on my PC compared to any other render I tried. As I said I dont know what I did. I was only trying to remove the tearing in QAM and DVD, and I succeeded at it, but now I cannot revert to VMR9 Custom and live with the tearing (it was minor, but enough to make a person want to try to fix it). I will give up on the idea that this can be resolved. Thanks for the feedback.

I am not so sure it's not hardware related. Believe me, at the time I made the OP tearing was the exact reason I was trying EVR - and there is no question that it was a lot better in EVR on the hardware I had then - an Athlon 2600, FX5900 GPU and DDR memory. But since getting an X2 athlon, 8800GS GPU (or ATIHD3450) and DDR2 memory, I can honestly say that I have not even thought about tearing once - it is a thing of the past that I had all but forgot.

Yeah, I know my video card could use an upgrade and tearing would probably go away. I was so impressed that it cleared right up with EVR I was hoping to fix the DVD freeze and I would make a disk image and NEVER touch it again (yeah right) Rolleyes Regardless, I cannot revert to VMR9 Custom, so I got to work on that first. I am praying Hoborg's SAF will do the trick.
