Quote: Slowness in the guide, Search Plugins?

When you use a client, much of the data is on the server. Therefore when you wish to display or search the TV Guide you are actually pulling guide data off of the server. So there will always be a delay...

Is this mainly network or processor dependant?
I have one machine that display the guide in seconds and one takes nearly half a minute.
In theory the network speeds are the same and the CPU speeds aren't much different.

I'm guessing that it is like the server and loads the full guide into memory at startup?

Zehd, it seems you are putting together info for Client PCs.

Sub, have you thought about a sub forum in Support for just Client issues like you have for MVPs?

I did think about it, but decided against it - I dont really like answering questions about client setups and it'd be more obvious that I was ignoring the posts if they were all in the one place Big Grin

Yes this batch of questions are Client related. I am really going through and updating the wiki.

I reality, the most efficent way is not to have a forum or discussion or thread, but rather a wiki page that has the information.

As friendly as this forum is, we are all starting to repeat questions and answers far too often...

Yep probably. I know that TV Listings works like that, and you can set how many days you want loaded, so you can spoeed things up.

You answered your own question. If you have a network where one computer is fast and another isn't, then assuming the network components are the same, then it would be processor...

But this thread isn't for support or answering questions, but rather gathering defintions and authoritative answers to common current, questions

I do not believe that there will be a dedicated Client page unless someone writes it. I know that it would be inapproporiate for specific detailed explanations on the config wiki. It's only supposed to be a road map with a legend...

When the PVRX2 client app starts it loads the all listings into memory. This is pretty quick when the client and server are on the same machine. When it has to go out across a networking share, it can take a fair bit longer. Any difference in time between clients for this to occur will be some combination of CPU speed of client PC, speed of network connection between client & server and memory available on client...

OK thanks for that. A bit like how long that bit of string is Big Grin
I was only trying to spot the bottleneck without having to drag boxes up and down three flights of stairs.

I don't think I ever got streaming working. Anything special required?

Changed the wording on this page as not entirely accurate. Good work tho zehd, don't know how you manage to do all this. But I think I have the natural programmer's dislike of writing documentation Smile
