There has been something, some gremlin, in the works with the db locking since 1.2.9 or so. I was having it for a while, but it hasn't happened in some time.

Ideas you can try:
Cut down to bare minimum the plugins you use.
I found that the more I switched from PVRx2 to the Config app in a short period of time the more likely the db would hang.
