I doubt the PCI-e version would be the issue, as the board and graphics card are of a similarish vintage, and the much newer 8600GT graphics card works without problem on the board. Of course, I could well be wrong though!
Still no boot, or rather no post I suppose I should say as nothing happens apart from the fans spinning, even with everything else disconnected. Tried installing all the motherboard drivers too, but this made no difference.
Well actually, it did make a difference. It made things worse. With the onboard VGA drivers installed, Windows kept shutting down at random moments, reporting a problem with ati2dvag. Uninistalling them returned everything to normal.
But it's been one disaster after another so far. My XCard (yes I still use one of them, though the AIW with its scart output was supposed to start weaning me off it) refuses to install now; it gets to the very end of the driver install process and then the computer reboots. This happened before and after the motherboard drivers were installed, and before and after my Hauppauge cards (PVR 150 and Nova-s Plus) were installed, so I guess it can't be a driver conflict.
Is it possible that the fact it is still installed on my original hard disk- which is now the D drive in my computer where all my old recordings are- is causing a problem? I didn't think to uninstall it before rebuilding the computer, and I'm not sure how you uninstall drivers from a D drive, as I presume the Control Panel route only deals with the C drive. Anyway, it would seem odd if that should be the cause when the D drive is not involved in the driver installing process, and my old Hauppauge card installed with no problem.
So the idea of a computer with a graphics card that could possibly one day make my XCard obselete, has ended with a computer with no decent TV output at all. I tried using the composite output from the motherboard's Xpress 200 onboard graphics (without the VGA drivers installed of course), and the picture is very ropey, and refuses to fill the screen. What's more, my Athlon 64 3000+ runs at around 90% for just standard definition MPEG2.
And I haven't even begun to mention that GBPVR itself won't work at all so far; the configuration (which I'm updating from the files copied from the old disk- I basically just need to change the satellite tuner and the recordings locations), craps out when I try to save it, usually saying that the database is locked. I don't expect any help with this though as I'm still on an old, Xcard friendly version.
If anyone has any ideas about any of the above problems, I would love to hear them. Really love to!
