If they're easily added than yeah I think we should. You can hold off though if you want and I'll do some testing to make sure they're useful.

edit: Ha! I've just read that back and I suppose what I'm trying to say is Yes/No/maybe/I think so/if you want Rolleyes

They're not in my copy of the baseskin or SkinPluginConfig file, or on the CommonImages list.

I've been tinkering with these this afternoon and I think I would be good to add them.

The original idea was: because these elements are all over the place through out the skin in different sizes, it distorts any curve that might be in the graphic. So the only way that they look right is if they are square graphics. I thought that the inclusion of two more would increase the options and allow curved graphics but that's not the case.

I did find however that you can achieve a quite passable beveled effect using GB's "DrawRoundedRect" so although I might not use the "TextBackgroundLarge" and TextBackgroundSmall" graphics in CS blue the inclusion of the formatting in the baseskin and in the relevant places in the skin xmls means that they can be used in the future and I can kind of fake it with "DrawRoundedRect".

If it's handy enough to add them, then they will be useful both the graphics and the formatting.

Oops, my bad. I totally missed the boat that they were not part of the 3 already defined.

I had imagined TextBackground_Wide would be used for horizontal rectangular like the bottom part of the TV guide description area and the timeline area. and TextBackground_Narrow would be for vertical rectangular areas, like the vertical skinnng option in Weather. TextBackground would be squarish. Are you suggesting to split TextBackground into Large and Small?

Nope, I'm suggesting adding TextBackgroundLarge and TextBackgroundSmall to the group, so 5 in total. They're workhorse graphics Big Grin

Ok, Ill add those as CommonImages to the baseskin.xml file as well so you can use DrawRoundedRect there or images.

I'm way ahead of yea! Big Grin, already done. I've also been tweaking with the "Outline" and dropshadow effect for draw text, I think it makes the text more legible.

When I've tidied it up I'll add it to the baseskin.xml on the code page, so you can have a butchers.

Attached is the rough knock up I did this afternoon (note: it's not based on the most recent baseskin.xml from the svn). It'll give you an idea. I'm using TextBackgroundLarge in the video+music meta views (just changed from TextBackground) and a combination in the TV Guide.

Also let me know if you can see any difference in the text through out the skin, to me it's slightly easier to read with the use of the outline and dropshadow effects.
