There aren't really any reasons to use VGA with a new flat panel. You're far better off using HDMI. Most TV's these days do 1:1 pixel mapping over DVI/HDMI which used to be quite rare and was typically only available via VGA.

I use the dvi-out on the computer and connect straight to the red/green/blue connectors on the tv. I believe Philips calls it component-connector, and is marked with HDMI-something or other on the tv. In any case, the crispness is jawdropping compared to what I had before with the 32" CRT.

A DVI to HDMI cable would still be better. Component video is still analogue, so not lossless, and I think the maximum resolution if component is 720p - which means your are not getting 1:1 pixel mapping which makes a big difference.

Actually, component supports up to 1080p.

On some TVs there may be a noticable difference between component video, HDMI/DVI, and/or VGA, others not. Much of it depends on the TV's capabilities and the embedded processors, etc. My 37" Westinghouse looks good at 1080p with DVI, VGA or component - I can't tell the difference.

Ok thank you - I had duff information. Come to think of it, it's because my Inoi media tank only plays upto 720p via component, so I thought that was the limit...
Of course on my monitor HDMI is miles better - because it is 1360*768 1:1, and I don't think you can use that res with component...

I was a bit off there; it was the dvd-player that had a component-to-component connection while the PVR/PC had a dvi-to-hdmi. My mistake.

I opted for the component-connection on the DVD as that was the best signal-quality it could push out according to the manual. The previous rca-to-scart quality was noticably worse, compared to nowa.

I've tried some HD-media with GBPVR now and the new TV. Excellent quality IMO.

I've also noted that when I play "normal" media, ie media that is not HD, I don't see the resume/restart-dialogue or the volume-bar. When the media is HD, the dialogue and volume-bar shows up just nice.

Not sure, but I think it's some kind of scaling error/bug/whatever. Dunno' who's to blame though, the TV or GBPVR or a combo of both.

The TV-manual states that when the source is a computer one should set the TV-scaling to "Not scaled". GBPVR does not repond to F7 anymore.

In any case, the the pic-quality is just fine, regardless.
