I've just recently gotten mine running really well; the mainboard I was using for the last few months turned out to be bad, causing random hard-locks and reboots. Since I replaced it, I've not had a single crash. Got my video output sorted as well with a GeForce 9400GT (suffered for months with a radeon HD4550, got tired of waiting for AMD to fix the drivers).

My system:

Leadtek socket 939 mainboard, Geforce6100/Nforce430 chipset
Athlon64 X2-3800 dualcore cpu
Geforce 9400GT (PNY)
2GB RAM
100GB SATA system drive, 320GB IDE recording drive (I have a 1TB drive going in next time I feel like opening up the system)
Hauppauge HVR-1250 (PCIe)
KWorld ATSC-340U (USB)
(also have a KWorld ATSC-315U I keep meaning to connect but never get around to it)
Antec NSK1380 cube case
----------
Windows XP Pro w/SP3
GB-PVR 1.3.11 w/most survival guide patches
ts mux
Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 decoder (among several others, the cyberlink seems to work best for me)
ffdshow audio decoder

I record exclusively OTA ATSC.

It comes in the k-lite codec pack. I have no idea if that's legal for them to include it, but it probably isn't. I've also seen it made available for download somewhere in the forum here. I have PowerDVD 6 legitimately via the disk that came with a DVD drive, and if I look hard enough I probably also have 8 that way as well.
