Hi Simon,

Damn - this is starting to worry me...
Quote:16/04/2009 17:45:04.429 RunGraph() threw exception: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
This is the same exception that was thrown before but I don't know why.

The graph built perfectly (as far as I can tell from the logs) including adding and connecting the MonoGram AAC decoder.

It's almost as if running dvb radio once is fine (e.g., when you scanned for the stations) but it then 'hangs' the tuner. I haven't come across this with anybody else and there's no indication in the log that things haven't been cleaned up correctly.

Let me know what happens with the new drivers.

Cheers,
Brian

EDIT: PS, I reckon there's a good chance that a reboot would result in you being able to play the radio successfully...urrrm, maybe

Hi Brian. Back after a busy period at work.

I've just upgraded my DVB-T card drivers from the default ones that install with VISTA (21.03.2007 4.3.25080.0) to the latest ones on the Hauppauge UK web site (16.06.2008 4.3.26168.0).

I can't hear the radio stations, but there are no more exceptions being thrown in the logs :p

I've attached two logs - both with the new drivers. One with me rescanning the stations then trying a radio station (DvbRadio6.zip). The other is after a cold reboot and trying a different radio station (BaseFM DvbRadio7.zip).

Cheers, Simon.

Well at least that's a bonus. Big Grin

I discovered another issue at the weekend...
Quote:24/04/2009 08:52:48.527 ChannelList.Add() - 50 Radio NZ National 0 8 8746 33 2000

24/04/2009 08:52:48.539 ChannelList.Add() - 51 Radio NZ Concert 0 8 8746 33 2001

24/04/2009 08:52:48.539 ChannelList.Add() - 71 BaseFM 0 8 8746 33 2002
The zero highlighted in red after the station name (above) should have the frequency. The scan is working perfectly but it's not writing the frequency to the database. :o

Could you try the attached and let me know what happens. Follow the instructions in post #3 in this thread. Remember to copy an empty copy of the DB over the existing one as you'll need to force a rescan.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian.

Now we're making progress ! I can now get to play the first DVB-T station I select, but if I stop listening to it I can't get another (or the same) station to play. I've attached logs of a scan; a successful session with the first station; an unsuccessful attempt at station 2, then 3, then 1 again.

I noticed that the DVB Radio Service wasn't running any more, so checked the Event logs. Sure enough - I get an exception in the service after the successful run, and each time I stop/start it and attempt another session:

Hi Simon,

Yes - progress indeed! Smile

OK - I've spent the past hour or so trying to get my head around this and I really don't know what is going on. The exception 0xe06d7363 seems to be some sort of generic one so doesn't help. There's also nothing abnormal showing in the log and what's confusing is that the time of the exception in your Event logs (7:35:41 a.m.) is some 16 seconds before the last DvbrServiceMessageHandler.log entry
Quote:28/04/2009 07:35:57.713 DSMH: Message handler received: DVBTR_GET_PRESENT_FOLLOWING_DATA
Something I'm not quite clear about...
Quote:Sure enough - I get an exception in the service after the successful run, and each time I stop/start it and attempt another session:
If you reboot your machine and then stop the dvbr service (without running the plugin) does the exception get logged to your Event Log?

Further to that could you try a reboot, play a station, stop it and exit pvrx2 then zip attach all logs in the DvbRadio\logs folder and the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log. Also, after exiting pvrx2 could you check that the service is still running.

Cheers,
Brian

Hi Brian.

I cold rebooted, stop the service, started it, stop it. No errors logged. The log shows stoped, started, stopped successfully.

Then I started the service and tried to play radio station 1 (that worked in my previous post after an initial scan). Nothing happened. So I tried radio station 2. This time the service died (got the same error as before in my logs).

The logging you asked for is attached.

Cheers, Simon.

Hmmm - still don't know what's going on.

Could you also attach the other plugin logs please? DvbRadio.log and DvbrClient.log.

Hi Brian.

Well, it all came right today. First I tried and it crashed again. So I stopped the services, cleared out the logs, took a fresh copy of the DvbRadio-empty.db3 file (to force a rescan), then cold rebooted. When I ran the DVB-T plugin it scanned, but didn't seem to succeed. So exited and re-ran the DVB-T plugin and this time it scanned and succeeded. I played station 1 successfully. Then after a few minutes I stopped, and selected station 2. Success ! So I then tried stopping / starting the stations at random. I exited the GB-PVR client entirely, then restarted it and re-ran the DVB-T plugin. Radio stations performed as you would expect.

So, not sure why it is now working for me, but who can argue with success ! I've attached the logs you asked for, in case any of this helps.

Thanks for your help - Simon Smile

Hi Simon,

Glad it seems to be behaving for you now although I'm worried that you may get that 'silent' service crash again.

The DvbrClient.log may well have helped - I've managed to pinpoint what the service was doing when you saw that last crash on Thursday evening. The bit of code doesn't have any exception handling so it may be that this is where things are 'silently' going wrong.

The other problem (the scan not working first time) is because of this...
Quote:29/04/2009 17:51:16.730 RunGraph() threw exception: A device attached to the system is not functioning.
I've seen this a few times in your logs and also someone else's - I'll look at it further.

Cheers,
Brian
