So if I committed to this what apart from DVB set up's would be good? Put EPG in there as well?

Cheers

I've got a number of walk thoughts to send over.... I hoping (expecting) DVB-S for XMAS so I'll provide a guide for satellite shortly along with a couple of bits I've been working on....

Excellent, keep going whilst the force is with you!

I'll do a mock up in the next week in Mr Bill's Word in HTML format for layout suggestions and take comments before committing? I just see it better this way than me just sticking up pages with little or no internal or external integrity.

Of course Wiki is creatable by everyone but I think there's a few changes afoot at the moment that would be better with some co-ordination.

Cheers

What about 'How to...' rather than 'WalkThroughs'.

I stuck my newbie hat on yesterday (I've had a few different hats on recently) and tried a few ways of accessing the wiki (forum tool bar, various google links) and I always ended up on the home page - which is all about wikis. Does anyone else think that it might be better if the home page contained a brief summary of what GBPVR is with links to the manual, the forum, 'what is a wiki', etc?

Alex's 2p worth...

By this do you mean Home page of GBPVR.com?

No - the home page of the wiki - the bit you get to when you click on any link to the wiki.

It's no problem to me, cause I just scroll down till I see what I want in the lefthand menu cos I already know my way around, but with my newbie hat on, it's a bit confusing to be taken to an explanation of what a wiki is.

Alex

PS I may be at my laptop, but I've got a glass of mulled wine with me.

I think having a paragraph or so description of what GBPVR is and how it has been developed, i.e. why the wiki exists, at the very beginning would be a good idea as an intro. It helps the user know for certain what the wiki is about rather than inundating them with procedural issues of what the wiki is.

This sounds logical but will see what others think.

Of course GBPVR Home page has this:

Quote:GB-PVR is a mature, robust, full-featured Personal Video Recorder (PVR) or Media Center which runs on Microsoft Windows. It's main function is scheduling tv recording and watching live tv, but it can also playback a wide variety of media types across music, videos and photos. The application is made even more useful with a wide range of plugins available, providing features like weather, music jukeboxes, netflix etc

GB-PVR supports the latest technologies, including ATSC/ClearQAM/DVB-C/DVB-T/DVB-S capture devices, high definition MPEG2 and H.264 television channels, media extenders (Popcorn Hour, Hauppauge MediaMVP etc), multidec support, multi-record (recording multiple digital channels with one tuner), etc

I think you're suggesting something a little different?

Combination of Sub and his development and basis of what the wiki should provide?

Cheers

I think the two paragraph description you quoted would make a good top level for the wiki. I'm not suggesting something different.

Yes, the GBPVR home page may already have this but I don't see any problem with also including it here. I'm normally against stating the same thing in two places but I think including it here quickly lets the user know what the wiki supports.

New users may not always have come to this point from the GBPVR home page... one of the "benefits" of search engines or links from other web pages.

I could go along with this but as this would involve a major change of Wiki Homepage look and content would like to know other comments.
