The avi format is just a container, I think many people mistakenly take the quality xvid and possibly divx files they have to indicate that it is good. There is no doubt in my mind that mkv and mp4 are a more suitable containers for HD content 2010.

Cool, thx for that, I been leavin everything I record as .mp4 seems to stream to my iPhone OK, while on wi-fi of course. AVI streams too, just that typically those are files which I've downloaded and are much larger. Was wonderin if any benefit.

Quote: Off topic, slightly...Just curious why it seems so many people seem to like .AVI? Pokin around the net, ya see most folks using .AVI to share their videos, etc. must be a reason?

You can compress down avi files to lower resolution and bitrate. Makes it easier to download smaller files. I've seen many dvd's converted to avi that only take up 700mgs.

After further investigation about tsmuxer and it's created meta files. They are different for every file. Many include corrections for audio at certain frames. I've heard of people using vb script to run the tsmuxergui and automatically saving the meta file. I downloaded another scripting tool called autoit. It might work to create a script for doing all the conversions, but its been a while since I've done any programming so the learning curve could be steep.

See this thread for a decent ts file repairing and reasonable conversion via mpeg4 to avi. Reduces file size considerably but quality is still good. I use mpeg4 instead of xvid because xvid does not allow more than one thread for ffmpeg.
