Yes I can change subtitles by using the ffdshow icon. I have installed the SAF that have set ffdshow for all subtitles. I mainly need them to change the subtitles for various mkv-files that have more than one subtitle embedded. Sometimes none is default and other times some language I do not understand is shown. My .avis have only one .srt file so I do not need to change them.

I have not tried the API, as I am really bad at programming...

Sorry, I meant can you enable DVB subtitles (teletext or graphic) using ffdshow and NPVR. mkv files probably will use the Haali splitter.

I have never tried. I don't even know which channels here use DVB subtitles.
The usual case is hard coded subs on the stream.
When I get some time I can see which channels/programs there is using this and test.

But I will be away on three weeks vacation soon, so it will have to wait.

I use HIP and IRSS - one for my ATI remote wonder and one for my MCE remote - and I just map two sets of instructions for the yellow button and green button.

Yellow button --> {ctrl}y{ctrl}{alt}a

or something like that.

So the first command is understood by GBPVR and the the rest is understood by ffdshow as changing the audio stream. The main thing is to make ffdshow receive commands even if it's not in focus. There should never be any conflict since ffdshow only comes into play when you are watching a video.

It works for me...mostly. For some reason when I play my MKV files and I switch subtitles and/or audio streams too much it crashes the system. I think it's a driver issue though since I'm using a very old Catalyst suite.
