How does @visible work?

Reading this, it occurs to me to wonder -- do all bools work this way then? I struggled for an evening trying to get @hasMetaData to do what I expected it to do, before giving up and doing away with the metadata block entirely. Wonder if this is why.

All the "visible" attributes behave this way. At the end of the day, I had to choose either 'true or 'false' for the default if the plugin didnt supply the specified variable, and it made more sense to have it visible by default (so the skinner could see the placement etc - rather than seeing nothing)
