or you could just add a little note to the dialog next to the Renderer setting saying "XP Users try VMR9 first" or something like that. Simpler, probably solves it for the majority.

Since then I've done a complete reinstall, and PVRX2 is working great on all channels/recordings, so I'll try NPVR again and see what happens.
