I seem to be having a similar problem (sorry for the partial hijak Walt). I can see the log showing comskip being called and it says it finished but nothing has been done with the file. It does not show that anything physically has been done nor is there any skipping of commercials.

The logs should be in e:\users\public\npvr\logs

If his system is true to his signature & he is running XP then they will be in
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR" & it is a hidden directory e:\users\public\npvr wouldn't have been created automatically & it wouldn't be where the scripts should be either!

good observation Jaggy; either his signature wasn't there before or I just didn't notice it (most surely the latter). wscrivens kept saying e:\users\public\npvr, so I accepted that as fact.

@wscrivens: please confirm your system configuration and particularly your OS. The location of your NPVR data folder does depend on which OS you have, and it is created by the NPVR installer - you don't create it yourself! we hearby sentence you to remedial reading of the post linked in my signature below, and perhaps also of the Wiki's Quick Start installation page: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alledParts

No it isn't. I am running Windows 7 Professional. I tried changing the sig yesterday and couldn't find the right place to do it - gave up on that 'cause it was getting late, but I'll fix it today.

Yes, I did read the wiki. when the log files did not show up in E:\Users\Public\NPVR\Logs, I did a system wide search for them. The only file found in a search for nrecord.* is the exe, which is in E:\Program Files\NPVR, where it should be.

Partly, my thinking gets fuzzy from years of working with GBPVR and its files... I need to slow down and think everything out anew.

Thanks for the patience and help, everyone!

please run regedit and confirm the values of:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NPVR\DataDirectory
-and-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NPVR\InstallDirectory

if your NPVR data stuff isn't where DataDirectory says it is, you have a badly messed up installation. the simplest solution is to delete everything, delete the NPVR registry keys under HKLM\SOFTWARE and HKCU\SOFTWARE, then re-install from the 2.1.5 installer.

Thanks! That was the key. Now that the Registry is sorted out, everything works fine. I have Comskip in its own directory, the NPVR directories have nothing extra in them and peace is restored.

FWIW I did follow the instructions in the WIKI as far as they go. Part of the problem was the fact that I installed to E: - and I know that's probably 1 user in 1,000 so I don't expect the WIKI to cover the situation. OTOH, I did wind up with a c:\users\public\npvr directory, with some of the subdirectories present in it. I'm 99% sure that I didn't put it there!

Thanks for all the help :-)

As far as I know it's up to Windows where your user profile directories are stored, and NPVR just uses it as defined by Windows (that is to say, the c:\users\public part is defined by windows, not the NPVR installer). If you want to force NPVR to use a different data directory you have to change the registry setting and then re-install.

Glad you have it all working. Enjoy.
