I'm not really sure then. There is no sign of obvious problems in the logs.

You could see if changing the video renderer has any impact.

Switched PC on this morning only to get excessive CPU usuage. Constantly at 100% which is virtually killing the pc
Only have Vista, NPVR, K-Lite mega pack and Avast installed.
?????

Did try safe mode and NPVR was hogging up 48% to 55% of the CPU

I'm guessing you dont have the required DirectX support available on your machine, so its doing software rendering, which can cause high CPU when just sitting at the menu.

Install the patches from the survival guide. There is at least two that would probably help this (#4 and #8).

Hi Sub Now sorted the high cPU - Vista doesnt help by having additional process that arent really needed.
Back to NPVR - have put the decoders as Microsoft decoders. have played with the render setting and still no luck

any guesses?

When you try changing channels, does a new live tv buffer file get created in your configured directory, and does that file grow.

Had to delete 40 files in the temp folder to check this out...files createdby npvr live tv recording

live tv creates a file - doesnt grow in size, change happens ok for 3 slow changes, with a delay by me for each change.
on 4th change large file created by old channel and by new channel and then crash

The file does grow but the write is only flushed occasionally, so the file systems doesn't see the changes immediately, you will see it jump if you watch long enough or when it rolls every 7 minutes.

As Martin says, Explorer will often show the cached file size. If you right click the file, and select properties, then you'll see the real size. You'll have to then hit cancel and view the properties again to see the new size.
