Unfortunately, I had to return the WD Live box due to other issues while I could still get my money back so I can't do that test. However, if they are able to fix some things in the firmware I might try again.

Alternatively it's possible the Sigma libraries dont like something about the http response headers that nextpvr produces. You could try capturing the http response header using Wireshark so we can see if they have any significant difference.

I don't believe the question is with Sigma libraries, it is how WD and Syabas implement them. UPnP file streaming is http but it is possible that they use the content-length available from the UPnP protocol instead of running trick modes to make http look like a file system.

As for PlayOn, based on my experience with the Universe plugin, I had to make special allowances for it even on the PC. The transcoding doesn't start right away, sometimes NetFlix can be 20 or more seconds before the file even starts growing and if I just pass the URL to DirectShow, it won't play.

Martin.

sub Wrote:I'm pretty sure that 30 second delay wont be caused by the way NextPVR is streaming channels. The exact timing will vary from device to device, but it's usually a second for the connection from the client, a few seconds to start the device, and another second or so to start capturing the requested channel. Maybe 8 seconds or so all up. If you try it in VLC you'll see how long it's taking on your setup.

What's likely to be happening is their player components aren't really designed for live streams, so they're wanting to buffer x amount of seconds of video before starting playback, or x amount of bytes before starting playback. For example, for pre-existing content (netflix, youtube etc) they might be able to buffer 30 seconds of video in the first few seconds, since it's already sitting on a server somewhere ready to download. You cant do that with live streams, since it takes 30 seconds to produce 30 seconds of content.

THis can easily be demonstrated via the View Live link that is in NEWA.....it only takes a few seconds on my clients to render the stream and it is using the live?channel= url.

Yep. Must remember that way to test it in the future. There is no reason why other media player devices couldnt be just as quick.

I haven't had any luck with NEWA ad these URL's, but there are no major delays for SD live TV to my Android tablet and phone. Wifi is the bigger issue for streaming.

The links do pop up old-school vlc plugin window, but no video is playing, it shows "Idling". The url in the plugin looks correct http://ip:8866/streamer/vlc/stream.aspx?...channel=## but NRecord doesn't show anything.

It's not a big deal, I can just enter the URL manually and play them with VLC or mplayer if I needed to use this on the laptop.

Yea....auto-start is not enabled....you need to click on the Play button for the stream to start. :-)
