Not Really.

On the client you could try creating a c:\temp directory, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NPVR\LogSlipFile=1, then reproduce the problem and npvr.log and c:\temp\reader.log, aswell as the server log.

Quote:BTW I noticed the client and server clocks seem to be out by a few mins - could this be related?
No.This doesn't matter.

and a new twist, I started the same recording again and tried to jump straight to around 3/4 way through by clicking on the green time line with the mouse, rather than using the arrow keys and it crashed out instantly on two consecutive attempts. However on the third playback it behaved completely normally again. Logs are from first crash.

Do you have all the patches installed from the sticky thread?

yeah I think so. I think this behaviour started since one of the patches. however as I applied some straight from the sticky, and others following forum discussions I guess it's possible I've patched an old one over a new one or something. Is there one in particular that you think may need applying? Or perhaps I'll remove npvr on server and client and reinstall chronologically and see if it improves.

There were a couple in there that were client related, and may have been a factor.

Shouldn't need to reinstall the app. Just try reinstalling all of the patches in the order listed in the sticky thread.

Just for the record:
I've just re-patched Server and client with:
unmanaged.dll from sticky no.6
Nshared.dll from sticky no.5
and NPVRTSReader2.ax from sticky no.4

Thanks for your time so far, I'll let you know how it goes.

I was having the exact same problem after installing that patch. After a reboot of the computer, the problem has not reappeared.

I've only had time to run a couple of half hour shows through the PC, but latest experiments appear to reveal that an unpatched 2.4.3 seems to be stable and does not exhibit the problem.
applying npvrtsreader2.ax patch from either sticky 1, or 6 to the client causes frequent but apparently random drop outs during played back recordings. Your earlier comment suggested that the client was reading an end-of-file time mark, and was therefore exiting correctly, even though the file was in-fact only partially played.

I'm going to stick with the unpatched version for now as of the three reported client bugs, this is by far the most inconvenient during day-to-day use, but I'd dearly love a more complete resolution and I'm happy to provide any more logs, or test patches if there's any thing else you think of.

many thanks so far.
