actually I should probably update the sticky to say that the firewall exceptions should be made by everyone for all configurations - there are a variety of scenarios where one part or another will need to use network communication, and some firewalls will even try to block localhost networking.

that said, I'm sure there is a method to ask for firewall exceptions to be created during the installation; this will certainly work for the windows firewall, and may also work for 3rd party firewalls that are properly integrated into windows security center. sub could vastly reduce the number of support requests by implementing this in the installer.

Hey! After playing with NextPVR and getting the channels to show up under the Admin account, I had to quickly log off and go back into the Standard User account to quiet the family.

It just went straight to Media Center (Win7 product) as I have not gotten the PVR Client working 100% yet.

Anyway, as the Standard User account was loading up, I noticed some pop-up in the task bar tray that said it wasn't able to connect to localhost (127.0.0.1).

I have not had a chance to work with it since, but does this mean that something in the Standard User account is blocked? Win7 Media Center was still able to play Live TV, so the HDHomeRun has not been affected any.

Sending your logs will help. It sounds like you have the NPVR Recording Service turned off.

Will do. At work now, though.

The main question behind that though: If I run NPVR through a Standard User account, should I expect any issues?

None. I run the client on both Win7 and Vista as normal users with UAC fully enabled and with everything installed using their defaults and have never had a problem.

Logs attached.

When zipping, WinZip reported possible corruption issues because some files were in use.

Does anything in them mean something to anyone?

Are you using Windows Live OneCare? If so, I believe the firewall settings are per user and so you will need to add the exceptions again under that user account.

You need to stop the NPVR recording service (in the Program Menu) before zipping the logs. I also have to run the mouse over the "n" tray icon so it disappears properly after stopping the recording service. ... and don't forget to restart it after sending logs ... or you will miss shows :-)

I just copy the whole folder and zip from the copy.

I killed the thing from the task bar tray, tried to zip the files again, but got the same message that the files were in use.

I had to bring up Task Manager to see 3 NextPVR processes running. I killed them all, and made this next log file.

Hopefully, there is something useful in these logs, because they are troublesome to upload from the media PC.
