XMLTVGUI has an tick box to tell it to copy series and episode date into the subtitle. Works well. Plus, I agree that scrapping BBC HD was a step backwards ... Who needs Paxman in HD?

Perfect! although I can't get it to work, I enabled a postprocessor and ticked the option "Add episode numbers to program subtitle" but no go. Can you give specifics please.

Haha, never mind Paxman, what about anne robinson. I had a rant here, prob won't make any difference though, they won't sack her. tehee.

How do you setup DVBGuide? I created an xml file but NPVR says it's an invalid xmltv format. Do I need to create a batch file like this one? That's beyond my capabilities, can anyone help me out with that?

DVBGuide captures the OTA EPG in its entirety from just 1 mux and also decodes the HD channel epg, so if you are still interested in using it here is my updateepg bat file.

Code:
@echo off
rem
rem Batch file to capture the UK Freeview EPG OTA as an XMLTV format file
rem
rem Change to working directory
rem

C:
CD \DVBGuide
rem
rem Get rid of old .xml files
rem
del /Q *.xml
rem
rem Now collect all epg from Freeview OTA, Mendip (West) PSB1 is on 698000 MHz, QAM64
rem
DVBGuide -c698000 -m64QAM -e780 -oc:\DVBGuide\DVBT-EPG.xml

Just change the -c value to your BBC-A mux frequency.

Also Do not use DVBGuide 0.9.6 that will give the invalid xmltv - use 0.9.5

I have DVBGuide in C:\DVBGuide folder and for mapping channels that is where the xmltv file will be.

Is it just me or are you also annoyed BBC HD is gone, it used to broadcast programs in HD that were originally aired in SD, like Bluestone 42 and The Crash on BBC 3. They could move these repeats to the early hours but looking at the schedule they don't plan to. It will be a great loss, as far as I'm concerned, bad move.

According to what I have read from the BBC they will soon have so few new programs that the HD content from 3 & 4 will be shown on BBC2 as well.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives Huh

It sounds as if you have done what I do ... I ticked on the PrgDets post-processor and ticked on the "Add episode numbers to program subtitle" and "Use short form for episode numbers" and my .xml file contains the likes off ...

Code:

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

    <sub-title lang="en">S11E9/22 - Wild Life</sub-title>

Lao Pan, very helpful thanks. It's up and running now although ITV +1 is completely empty, all other channels are fine.

Is it normal for channels to be listed more than once in DVBT-EPG.xml? Causes them to be listed several times in drop down boxes.

Hmm, so their going to stop upscaling.

Graham, yep that's what I'd done and the xml had the episode info but it wasn't displayed in NVPR. No worrys though I'll just use DVBGuide, thanks.

Yes
Recently there have been multiple entries for several channels - one of mine changed overnight - I think it is to do with regional variations.

One of them will have the correct data - I think I looked in the xmltv file to see which one but you could just try them in turn.

I see, it's all fun and games isn't it.

How do you determine which one is for which region?

They all have unique channel IDs but does it mean anything or is it just there to be unique?

Code:

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

    <display-name>ITV +1</display-name>

DVBGuide mentions west midlands, which is correct. Shouldn't it just get west midland related epg data?

How does NPVR manage to get the right region?

Sorry for all the questions, big learning curve here. Appreciate the help.

I think the only way is to map them and then look at the description for the evening news as it usually mentions the region by name. Or search the xml for the same info.

Looking at your xmltv extract, the second third and fourth entry for ITV +1 have lcn=33 (that is the channel no) The others have incomplete info So in the drop down list It should be one of these - 2,3,4 - as Iain said checking the local news description is probably the easiest way to identify the correct one of those three.

I suspect that the reference to West Midlands is about the transmitter group ... Sutton Coldfield and all its dozens of relays. It may be a coincidence that the transmitter group matches the local TV area. The transmitter group around here is, I think, called Mendip (also the name of the main transmitter) and does not match a TV region.
