If that's the case wouldn't one increase <EPGScanSeconds>60</EPGScanSeconds> to 240 or 300 to fix the issue?

Could it really bethat simple johnsonx42?

I'm surprised I am the first to come across the issue? I suppose there are so many different countries with so many different methods of collecting EPG data I may be the only one relying on DVB-T in the UK?

I use the DVB-T epg on my HP microserver (mainly test and standby machine) and get the following and I have not come across the problems you mention.

Thanks Martin123,

The numbers you get are significantly higher than do when things appear to be going wrong.

I see from your log file that BBC One HD has 597 listings where as BBC One (I assume SD) only has 86 listings. I wouldn't expect such a big difference for what is almost the same channel?

Again I may not be understanding the meaning of 'listing' in the log?

According to Sub the epg for a mux should be broadcast within a minute on that mux according to the DVB-T standard. - to get the whole epg from one mux takes about 7 1/2 mins in the UK.

I used to have exactly the same symptoms in the early NPVR days then went to DVBGuide for a couple of years.
Back earlier this year when Sub got the HD epg working I tested using NPVR Native support - and am still using it. As long as I have the update time set to about 05:00 hrs the update is fairly reliable.
One thing you need to make sure is that the computer is awake for long enough to get all the muxes. There is a reg key so that you can set un-attended wake time out in power profiles.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Hi Lao Pan,

Didn't quite follow your post...

You say in the UK the EPG should be sent with 1 minute for a [single] mux, but you then say a whole EPG from one mux takes about 7 1/2 minutes...

Locally we have 6 Muxes for SD, I don't have HD at the moment.

I have extend the EPG update to 300 seconds as suggested by Johnsonx42 and asked for an EPG update (I didn't clear the EPG data) looking at the log the resut from the first mux is as follows:

Thanks for all the ideas

I use the DVB-T EPG and in general it's fine.

When I've had problems in the past with incomplete listings, it has usually been down to a weak signal.

Thanks ACTCMS,

I did have the idea of a weak signal in the back of my mind.

It's a shame we can't see signal strength, and more importantly signal quality, more easily. I understand that each tuner has a different method of reporting but in my case I use two dual tuner dongles and being able to keep an eye on relative values would be useful even if the results can't be compared between different models/manufacturers.

I do keep an eye on the reported values in the logs but its difficult to be sure the signal is adequate. I don't see any issues with the Programmes I actually record and then playback which suggests the signal is good enough? However the EPG data may be the first to suffer if the signal is borderline. I am relatively close to the transmitter (about 6 miles), it is the main one for the area, not a repeater, and have clear line of sight. I have also used a decent passive splitter to feed the two inputs of the two dongles.

But I will keep this in mind as I continue to try things

Regards

Nigel

I hadn't noticed that before (very rarely have to peruse the logs) and I can't think of a reason for it or any way to compare the two. The EPG looks similar between the two channels at first glance.

& it doesn't explain the difference in the update mechanism from a manual epg update & the built-in one. Don't they use the same setting?

No problems with signal here, so that isn't a factor. The only variable between a reliable & unreliable EPG update here that I can find is that the built-in EPG update doesn't work, running it manually either from the Settings screen or from a .bat file works fine.

I have tried varying times for the built-in EPG update, doesn't seem to make a difference to reliability of the update. Machine is on 24/7 & PCI devices (Hauppauge 2200 & a Leadtek 3200H) do not sleep, so that's not a factor here either. Happy to help debug, just let me know what info needs to be collected. FWIW, 2.0.3 was EPG update reliable. 2.4.3 & 2.6.2 both unreliable.
