The recording with issues was "default", a manual recording at 12:30am.

So I need to look at the HDHomerun provided "config" utility? What exactly will I be looking for?

Something weird is happening since NextPVR is schedling shows in the past which immediately fail

Yes, that's still your best bet - you want to check the device says it's locked onto a channel, and check that's delivering at some realistic sounding bitrate.

Personally, I think you're wasting your time ignoring the real issue, and instead focusing on why some workaround isn't working. You'd be better off looking at why real recordings aren't working.

I am sorry for the delay, but I thought I responded to this already. Apparently not. The recording in question is "default", a manual recording at 12:30am. The strange thing is it will show that it is recorded, but for 9 min 52secs rather then 10 minutes. But there will be another "default" at the same time showing it recorded 10 mins, but in fact it is a null file. That recording also shows as "failed" on NPVR with the error "Recording service not running at recording time".

I also checked my HDhomerun with their config program. I see nothing unusual. Have a signal strength of 85%, but seeing as I have a splitter in the cable to also feed my Tivo, that isn't bad and should be good enough. Again, I am on Comcast cable. Not sure what else I need to check. Point me in the right direction and I will give you any other info you may need. My "work around" using the manual recording to "wake up" cable has at least prevented me from missing any other recordings since I started doing that. But this issue only seems to show up in the middle of the night.

One last thing on the "default" recording. If I check for the recording after 12:40am (when it should be finished) it is there and there is no other "default" recording that shows it failed. That "failed" recording only shows up sometime after 2:42am (when I have the EPG updating). That is strange too, isn't it?

Confirmed. It works fine when using native NPVR just not with X-NEWA.

Ok, I will get rid of my manual "default" recording and just wait for the next "real" failure and post results when/if it happens. I was just using this "work around" so as not to miss something that I might really want to see.
