EPG OTA update unreliable

Again today half the EPG is missing. Multiple attempts to get a full EPG fail. With disable "out of process digital recording" the EPG seems even less reliable than before so I'm going to set it back to Enabled.

Any ideas Sub on how we can get to the bottom of this?

I sometimes had this sort of problem a couple of years ago with the Freeview EPG. One suggestion at the time was to run the update a bit later than the default 2am which did seem to help a bit. However what seemed to cure the problem was to use EPGcollector to produce an XML file from the broadcast EPG data and load that into NextPVR. Also instead of gathering the EPG data from each MUX in turn which NextPVR does I just use the EPG from the BBC MUX. EPGcollector has the added advantage of extracting the Unique Programme ID data and populates the "unique_id" field in the database so NextPVR can "Avoid duplicate recordings".

I could switch to try using EPG Collector however this really would be avoiding the "bug" in NVPR which is resulting in poor EPG collection. It would complicate the setup and I've always believed keep it simple usually means reliable.

I think it would be better if we could understand what's going wrong here, fix it and make NPVR an even better programme than it is already so it doesn't need to depend on external workarounds. :-)

In the end it's up to Sub if he wants to chase this down or advise to use the workaround.

Hi Sub, any further thoughts on the patch? The EPG update is so unreliable now I'm regularly losing season recordings on a daily basis as it's totally random if the EPG actually shows an entry for particular show (and if it's not picked up when the EPG updates, the season recording that might of been detected the day before gets removed when the EPG update occurs) :-(

I tried increasing the EPG scan time but that seems to make it even worse. Getting severe grief from the other half now. :eek:

Stupid question..... where do I put this file as I can't see one with the same name to overwrite?

It should be in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR"

Ok. Put patch there and run EPG updates manually. Still got lots of missing EPG data. What change does this patch add? Should I see something different in the logs?
P.S. restarted recording service after adding patch.

Can you post the log showing the epg update?
