I have a Prime tuner and am a little confused by this topic. Are you saying each tuner can record two different channels (sounds improbable) or are you saying one tuner can record overlapping programs on the same channel?

one tuner can record overlapping programs on the same channel

Not just overlapping programs. LiveTV on the same channel from multiple clients share the same tuner.

my livetv is not stopping when the third tuner is needed, it just changes my livetv to that channel without warning, and starts recording on that third tuner...
need logs? [recording at the moment]
it has happened more than twice, every time the situation comes up..
Hardware: HDHR Prime, HDPVR 1212, Raspberry pi2, VFD display w/LCDSmartie
