So, with my existing "UNC" path, how could I test that NextPVR can read or write to it?

Here is the PC I purchased in April 2014:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7I8HZ4

It has plenty of computing power, but a SATA or USB3 card isn't possible.

The 32 GB hard drive I put in there (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DY5C75E) should have been plenty with Windows Updates turned off, but when I run WinDirStat.exe, I see that Kodi is filling the 10 GB of space I had left over.

If I build another one, it will have USB 3 and a 500GB or 1TB Samsung EVO SSD. That would give me enough room to save recorded TV on the device.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

You might try a test with a .bat file that creates a test file on the NAS. For example a parallelprocessing.bat that contains ...

Don't rely on my batch command syntax being correct!

I have two folders defined in Settings --> Recording ... I record to a folder on the local machine to endure that my recordings are not affected by network bandwidth problems. Every day or so, I use Archive to move recordings from the local machine to a a folder on a NAS. This gives me the best of both worlds ... I am not affected by network bandwidth when recording and I have vast amounts of storage capacity on the NAS.

My 32 GB mSATA drive only has about 1.2 GB of free space, thanks to Kodi eating up the rest with its databases.

I don't have room to record much more than 15 minutes on there.

I expect (but do not know) that Kodi allows you to move its libraries/databases (to a NAS, for example!) ... plus you could decide that Kodi is a luxury that can wait until you get a machine with more disk space ... NextPVR is able to play videos that NextPVR did not record.

I've yet to get the audio to work through NextPVR. It seems like I asked once (on here or the NextPVR group in Kodi), but I was told not to worry about that, as Kodi would handle it.

The biggest issue is I can't seem to get NextPVR to work well with that "10-foot" interface (meaning a TV remote).

It seems to require a mouse to do Right-Clicks and the keyboard for the Escape button to back out of a screen.

That would be fine for a personal computer, but it makes my non-techy family upset enough that they will walk away.

There are probably ways I could program remotes to send these command, but I have a hard time keeping up with all the different media player commands and all of the different TV remote programming. Programming a remote often causes issues with another media player. That's when I get upset and walk away, too. LOL

I'm getting more familiar with Next, though. One day, I might know enough about how to work it to just ditch Kodi.

If you're getting video but no audio, it'll just come down to the audio decoders you've selected. If you want to try watching something, then post the logs, I'll check what decoders it's using and give suggestions on what needs to chang.

You shouldn't have to do right-clicks. This is typically only for going into the settings screen, and there is a selection of other stuff there to make things a little more accessible for mouse users, but noting you should need to do. What are you missing that makes you want to right click?

What remote are you using? Most remotes have a Back key, which is the Escape key. All my MCE (and Hauppauge) remotes have this key, and the key just works - you don't need to program anything special.

There should be a Back or Return key on the remote (typically a left pointing arrow that is not the Left key) that should go back in the menus. Right click should only be necessary to access Settings and you would need a keyboard for that anyway.

If you are just recording (and playing back or watching) US digital TV, all you need is the AC3Filter audio decoder. Free, easy to install, reliable. Can be configured to stereo speakers, surround, digital output. Select it for the MPEG1 and AC3 decoders. The rest can be disabled as they are not used in the US. Set the audio renderer to Default. This will take care of NPVR recordings. For other videos you may have, NPVR asks Windows to play them and Windows decides how to do that, so you may have to look into more/other decoders for Windows. This is an advantage of Kodi as it includes all of the reasonably needed decoders.

For remotes, your choices are an MCE remote for about $16 or a programmable remote. Perhaps one of your existing TV or DVD remotes can use MCE or WMC as the Aux device? I have a $16 MCE remote from ebay, as well as a Harmony programmable. I don't know if Win10 includes the drivers for the MCE remote receiver though, this needs to be confirmed. If you go the ebay route, make sure you get one that has the big receiver.

Maybe a small wireless keyboard would work? I think several folks here use one.

My stock advice is to use SAF ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post414049

SAF is an installer that will install decoders that work anywhere and anywhen and will configure NextPVR to use the installed decoders. Send a forum private message to Hoborg asking for the "unlocked" version to get the "best" decoders.

Great info on here today! I'll definitely need to log back in this evening when I can access the media PC.

The HDHomeRun EXTEND has me go into NextPVR and specify all of the antenna sources as H.264 HD instead of the default MPEG.

Will the AC3Filter decode H.264?

I got an unlock code in the past for SAF, but when I tried opening/downloading the program, Google Chrome refused because it said it contained a virus. Sure, I could have tried it with IE, but that made me quickly evaluate just how much I needed this free file on the Internet.
