OK well lets wait and see what happens with the SAF decoders. Can any of you guys in the UK give a detailed list of your SAF settings in the UK that work? (Including any tweaks). Are you guys saying these are problem free? Thanks.

SAf just configures itself properly and should just work perfectly out of the box with Freeview SD and HD.
Just double check (once you hear back from hoborg) that you have it set as Graham said.
NextPVR is a very stable and mature product. 99% of the time, if it crashes, you have a problem elsewhere, typically tuner drivers or decoders.
stick with it and the folks here will help you through the teething troubles.

I doubt there's anything wrong with my system/drivers. As I indicated previously everything works fine in WMC and Media Portal. MP is too slow (especially on start-up) to be useful though. I have also tried Kodi and although I was a fan for many years the EPG and overall performance lags well behind almost anything else.

Do you have the DirectX prerequisites installed? (assuming they're still needed, sub?)

There are still glitches even with SAF installed. Like for example the sound may stutter for maybe 20 seconds or so when changing channels. Also it doesn't play so great with my MCE remote. If for example I flip channels using the channel +/- button, I may get a black picture with sound only. I can however navigate without this problem using the navigation toggle on my remote via the on screen EPG. But straightforward channel flip[ping with the channel button on my remote is unreliable. Also if I have the on screen EPG on while I'm watching a channel and press the back button on my remote, it quits the TV and goes back to the full screen guide. The behaviour I would expect is for it quit the guide and just go back to the TV. (This behavior is not present when using a standard keyboard, where in this case if I press the escape key on the keyboard, the on screen guide quits as expected and I am returned to watching TV.) Also hopefully this is nothing big, but I can't work out a way to quickly switch between windowed and full mode, without quitting the TV and restarting the app? Lastly although I have selected the option to launch NPVR with the Watch Live TV button on my remote, doing so still currently launches MCE (since I am currently evaluating if an upgrade to Windows 10 is viable). It is much better though. Just not quite glitch free yet.

Edit.

I have a ('bells and whistles') Harmony remote if it helps. What profile should I select to give the best functionality?

You can press the Alt-Enter key combo to toggle between window and fullscreen mode.

If you press the 'escape' key on your keyboard, it should just close the guide, leaving you watching live tv. Is that what happens for you? The remote should be generating the same key stroke.

I don't think the back key is equivalent to escape on WMC remotes. The escape key is nonfunctional in WMC, whereas the back key (which is a small anti-clockwise looping arrow on my remote) will cause WMC to back out (but not quit the TV) to the last action. No chance of including a maximise/minimise/quit button anywhere on the UI? I'm not sure my remote has an 'alt + enter' button - at least it isn't a simple affair other than going to Logitec/Harmony and asking them to add one. (Which they may or may not do.) Besides I'm a little lazy (being lazy is what watching TV is about!). I am not keen on multiple key strokes to do something that in WMC is comparatively simpler. I am sincere about wanting to upgrade to Windows 10, so hopefully these small issues can be resolved.

Edit: Having said which I can probably reprogram the back key on my Harmony as an escape key. It's been a couple of years since I did this, so I am looking to maintain as much of the previous functionality of my remote as I can, as I'm just too used to it to change now. No 'alt+enter' option on the Harmony remote profile I'm using though.

To be honest, people using a remote aren't typically changing in/out of fullscreen mode, since you can't effectively drive Windows with a remote anyway - people doing this are usually sitting in front of the PC with a mouse etc...in which case, just press alt-enter. Mose people using a remote just leave it in fullscreen mode.

OK fair enough, thanks. I reprogrammed my remote and now the back key is the escape key. I also took the opportunity to train a non-functioning record button from another old MCE remote I have. Still getting audio choppiness when changing channels though. (Maybe some video choppiness too). It settles down after maybe 20-30 seconds, so I could live with it. It would rock if I didn't have to though. Also there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to delete recordings?
