OK thanks Martin. I'm struggling to find script.xbmc.x-newa in the XBMC folder. The link you have in your sticky gave notes special://XBMC is /usr/share/kodi:

Code:
2.3 Linux
special://xbmc - /usr/share/kodi when installed from a binary package (ie PPA, rpm, deb, etc). /usr/local/share/kodi when compiled (unless you specify an alternate prefix)

But when I go in there with WinSCP (yes hidden files shown) there is no x-newa (yes I have installed the X-Newa add-on within Kodi and it works), and not in the folders listed either

A search on addon.xml starting at root shows quite a few instances of a script.xbmc.x-newa folders, although under ./proc/self/task/518/cwd/.kodi/addons/script.xbmc.x-newa/ and quite a few others with script.xbmc.x-newa in the path.

Linux can use a lot of symbolic paths I suspect it is under /storage/.kodi in the OpenElec distro

Right, I think I am done, at least I have a working NextPVR client; QTPi2 is behind the TV.

I learnt that the Pi2 doesn't have an ON switch. Whilst the TV cleverly turns it off, via CEC**, you can't turn it on. Hmm.

Unfortunately my LCD Panasonic Veira doesn't have a USB Port, so I can't restart the Pi with a simple TV restart which seems to be what a lot of folks do. So I will get my wife to solder on a Switch to a header as the RPi2 has a couple of holes for that, but it's still a manual solution (albeit easier than pulling the plug!). Maybe I will consider one of those remote switches, but I am loathe to have yet another remote, especially just for one operation for one device.

** I might get a FLIRC anyway as I don't like using my TV remote for the Pi, especially after 9 years with my familiar PCH remote. The old MCE remotes with IR receivers are rare; wish I'd kept mine!

One last observation; whilst Kodi menus etc seems to be very high graphic quality, even with it set at 1024 × 768 in the RPi2 config, the NextPVR screen looks quite crude in comparison, worse than the PCH one even. What am I missing here? Kodi is very slick, surely I must be able to get a comparable look from NextPVR?

How would I improve the menu resolution?

The NMT and MVP don't ever turn off either, this is typical in embedded devices. The screen quality should be the same or better than the NMT ensure you have configured quality options for web client to your liking. You can't compare Kodi 3D graphics skins fonts etc to NextPVR's 2D. If you want Kodi skins sub's PVR addon might be what you are looking for.

Additionally the RPi has just an average framebuffer for graphics the NMT's Sigma Design chip was designed for STB's. Intel Kodi clients are better but everyone but me seems to want a cheap solution with the tradeoffs.

kodi has always been much slicker than NextPVR. It come from having lots of developers and graphic artists working on the project. Have you only just noticed NextPVR isn't so fancy after using something else? Big Grin

Or is this more about the screen being more blurry / lower res in XNEWA (vs NextPVR directly on PC)? The screens are compressed to jpg images for delivery to web clients, and this does loose some quality. There is some tweakable stuff here, but higher quality generally means a little slower responsiveness (though a fast NextPVR server helps immensely)

Go into the Kodi | Settings | System | Input devices and select Peripherals. Then you should be able to select the CEC Adapter. In its configuration screen, there is an option labeled "When the TV is switched off". Trying changing that to "Ignore".

I do use an MCE remote USB IR receiver and a Harmony remote. With my TV (a Vizio) at least, the CEC doesn't send things like the color buttons to the CEC client. So the MCE remote receiver gives many more remote buttons to use.

As Martin and sub have indicated, the image quality should be very comparable to what you got on the PCH. So, your description of "the NextPVR screen looks quite crude", leads me to believe that there is something configured not quite right yet in your setup. Maybe if you could post a picture of a screen that you are seeing, it would help to figure out what might need to be changed.
