Yes, it works on my Win10 development machine. I haven't installed anything special to get it working.

. . .

Hi mikeh49,

I haven't had a chance to do a search yet but I tried something and got a strange result! I am very familiar with the Harmony remotes as I have used them even before Logitech bought them. I have settled on the Harmony One as my primary remote and it controls my whole TV setup consisting of several devices. Anyway, with my current setup in the Harmony, I can control all of the essential functions of NPVR, with the only exception being the "green" button to start NPVR. So I went back into the Harmony setup and saw that I had learned several buttons from the Dell MCE remote into the Harmony rather than just using the Harmony database info. That led me to think maybe the Dell had some proprietary codes.

My next step was to crate a new device in the Harmony and I set it up as a Microsoft MCE Remote and said I did not have the remote so all the info came from the database. Then I powered up the Dell, went into NPVR, and . . . . none of the Harmony's new "MS MCE Remote" device's buttons worked in NPVR. I tried as many as I could and then all of s sudden I heard some audio and I though maybe something did work. To make a long story short the "MS MCE Remote" device in the Harmony brought up Hauppauge's Win TV!! In fact several of the buttons worked within Win TV. But again none of them worked in NPVR.

I really thought for sure that the MCE Remote from Harmony's database would be an exact match for the remote that sub posted an image of, but alas that seems not to be the case. So I'm open to any suggestions as to what I should try next. I did take a quick look at IRSS and may end up setting it up but since the ONLY thing is need is the green start-up button I think that may be overkill. I'm still hopping I can find a solution within Harmony's extensive database.

Or I may just try and buy a remote exactly like sub posted and learn the codes from it.

Thanks,
Gerry

Hi sub,

I hate to bother you again, but could you see if there is a part number for the MS remote you posted. I found a company that has a refurbished MS MCE remote that looks almost like yours but I'm not 100% its the same. So if you could post a part number I can tell if its the same as yours and if so buy it as its only $10.

Thanks,
Gerry

Hi Sub,

Very interesting!!! That's the exact model that Harmony's on-line data base came up with when I created a new MS MCE remote and yet when I tried that new device none of the buttons worked with NPVR, yet many of them worked with Haup's Win TV. I wonder if the whole IR interface in the Dell is set up with proprietary codes and that's why when I initially programmed the Dell remote into the Harmony I had to learn many of the buttons from the Dell remote rather than using the database info. And if that's true than none of the "real" MCE remotes will work natively with NPVR on the Dell PC!
Also, the model of the $10 MS MCE remote is not the same as yours so its not worth buying it.

I saw in the NPVR Wiki that you can configure the Haup remote to work with NPVR by adding a section to Haup's IR config file. I may give that a try.

I'm still not giving up!!!

Thanks

Changing the remote codes in harmony is not going to make it work
The receiver that you have is not expecting the codes from the mce remote sub has its expecting the Dell codes
To fix this you need to translate it with a program like irss
You are wasting your time trying what you are doing

Basically it's expecting English and you are sending Chinese

I think you're right!! Based on sub's remote model number being the one that the Harmony database used and none of its buttons worked with NPVR means Dell must have set up something different than a standard MCE remote. Quite typical of Dell!!

My only reluctance to trying IRSS is I hate to put in a new program and another level of setup just to get 1 or 2 buttons to work and they are nor really critical buttons. I might give a try to the info in the Wiki to make the Haup remote work with NPVR and if that doesn't work then I'll give IRSS a try.

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERY ONE for all your help!!

Do you have link to the eBay auction because it's actually the receiver that make sthe difference not the remote
I can understand not wanting to add a whole lot of crap to your system but irss is bloody handy for other stuff also

Hi stustunz,

Actually it was a company called Emtcompany (who I never heard of before and was reluctant to buy from) and it was just the remote. But as far as the IR receiver, the one that came with the dell is buried deep in the guts of the thing and I'm not sure how I could disable it in favor for a different receiver. (The PC is a Dell Zino specifically set up to be an HTPC in a small box and uses all mobile parts to fit everything in the small box. Except for a few things all the components are proprietary setups!) I had wondered about this once before and I know you can disable a device in the Device Manager so I took a look but there is no entry for an IR receiver.

So I think I have two things to try. First is the Wiki on using the Haup remote (which I think someone else posted as what they did) and if that's no good then consider IRSS!!

Thanks again,
Gerry

Yeah if you had a proper mce one it used to show up as ehtray.exe for the program that starts mce and you had to disable it to stop it starting mce when using the green button to start npvr.

Lucky you didn't buy it then the remote only isn't going to fix your start problem.
Your harmony one remote will already be sending exact IR codes that the mce remote will send

What you need is http://m.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Microsoft-...nav=SEARCH
