I was hoping someone would actually try it out to see what would happen
I have found that as long as you run a really short USB cable that makes more difference than the size of the USB power supply on the rpi2
And reading stuff said it depends on what USB devices you have plugged in which is also true for the rpi2

How are we supposed to guess what your TV's power amperage output is? One of my own problems up to now is I don't have a reliable USB 5v source (and I probably have tried 20) that didn't give me the rainbow from time to time on the RPi2 with any USB keyboard.

I read with interest that it supports PXE (probably just ethernet, not wireless??) takes me back to the MVP days and Martins network loader Wink
So far powers up and seems to run fine powered from the Samsung TV USB port

I've already got a PXE boot setup ready and waiting to see how it works.

Chanced across this thread so thought I'd chime in and share my Pi3 experience to date.

I've got OpenElec 6.0.3 running over wifi and powered from the USB port on a Sony KDL 300B series TV.

Bought the Pi3 to see if I could get Live ATSC TV on the NextPVR client against the 3.5.7 server (I've failed in this on a Nexus Player - yet works fine on a Galaxy Tab Pro 4). Delighted to say it's working consistently.

Took me a while to realise leaving a K400 keyboard dongle (used for setup) in the Pi was causing buffer, play, buffer play problems - presumably pushing the power drawn too high for the USB port.

On rare occasion I'll see a rainbow but with no discernible instability.

What length usb cable are you using to power the rpi?

4ft.

It's a data/charge cable that came with an HTC One V.

Try a short one and see if the rainbow goes away all together
