Povarotti - when you say the future is now that is quite ironic. Fifteen years ago I used to sell "Butler in a box" from Mastervoice - you can still buy them today, check their website - which used to control x10 devices and even a tv ir controller connecting through the serial port of the unit, and also doubled as a speakerphone which could be used to send remote commands by telephone.

Simon - X10 units were plug in units for power sockets, switches for lights etc. I've still got boxes of the stuff today. The unit I referred to in my earlier post was a CP290 Home Control Interface made by x-10. Probably the drivers are unobtainable - the unit was designed for the IBM PC.

Just done a quick google.

The following link looks like a simple device that could be easily programmed to send out X10 signals via the serial port. For that price you could almost write a GB-PVR X10 plugin with support for only that device.

X10 Controller

Does anybody know if these things would still work with an adaptor to a UK three ping socket (240volt)?

any chance of making the plugin you have available to try.. understanding of course that it is a work in progress. I have an x10 cm11a I'd like to try. X10's software is awful.

Who is this for?
The plugin I played with was all hard coded. It justed turned off my lights and closed the drapes. when I ran it. Not much there really.

Well I just need to stop being lazy and read the wiki about plug-in development. I would like to control my x10 active home unit with gbpvr instead of the POS that x10 provides. Just basic on/off functions. I have the older serial version. Don't have a clue where to start but I will chime in again after I have some idea what I'm getting into. Thanks... :o
