Galliano Wrote:TV was definitely off and I left nextPVR on the main menu screen. Also Kodi was closed.

By the way, after Graham gave nme the test instructions, I always set the time in the misc2 screen to 20 minutes after the actual time.

But if I understand you well guys, nextPVR updates the EPG via OTA:

- Only at the given time in the screen Misc2. So if the PC is off at that time - e.g. 20:00:00 and you turn on the PC at 21:00:00 nextPVR does not catch-up the missed update anymore.
-In case the PC is on and you are watching TV at the given update time, the update is also not taking place because the tuner is busy. And a twin tuner might also be busy with recordings ort time-shifting

?

If this is the case, nexrPVR ist probably not the backend for me as my htpc is on approx. 3 -4 times per week and I would need that it updates the EPG in the background, at least if I am watching a movie or listening to music from the HDD, no matter what time it is.
Just step it to run at like 3am, or some other time you're unlikely to be using the machine. NextPVR will ask Windows to be awake at that time, so the machine will wake, do the EPG update then go back to sleep.

Also Germany probably gets a week or so of listings at a time, so if the occasional night can't run the EPG update because you're recording etc, it's not a big deal, you'll still have listings in the guide for like 6 days, and it'll catch up the next night.

(FYI, eastavin who also asked questioned above, is in the US, where they only transmit like 6 hours of EPG, so the story is quiet different there...)

if your run "nextpvr.exe -UpdateEPGOnly", you wont see the gui. It'll just do the EPG Update in the background. I can't see why you'd need to do this though - everyone else in DVB parts of the world get by just fine without having to do this. Just set it to do the EPG Update at some time you're unlikely to be using your machine.

Graham Wrote:You can get NextPVR to update the EPG using the -updateepg command line option in a batch file ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ineOptions

You could use Windows Task Scheduler to run the batch file whenever you want and to run at the next opportunity if it misses the scheduled time.

I wrote this assuming that the machine was powered off when not in use. If you let the machine sleep, then the machine will wake as Sub says to do the update.

A batch file called whatever you want would contain the single line … %ProgramFiles(x86)%\NPVR\nextpvr.exe -updateepg

Thanks agai guys Smile

Graham assumption is correct, the machine is usually powered off, unless I have a timer programmed for recording (is such case it wold be in hibernation)

PHP Code:
A batch file called whatever you want would contain the single line â€¦ %ProgramFiles(x86)%\NPVR\nextpvr.exe -updateepg

This is exactely what I did yesterday just to try...I closed nextPVR and then ran in the cmd window:

Code:
nextpvr.exe -updateepg

nextpvr started with the usual GUI showing the info box "update EPG" and remained open.

So I think the right command for me would be

Code:
nextpvr.exe -UpdateEPGOnly

I'll give it a try.

Anyway, despite my command and the info message update EPG, no update took place, most of the channels are still showing no information, even after 15 minutes. And a manual update under Settings/Channels did not help this time neither Sad

As for the update time, a manual update that worked last week, took on my pc approx. 40 minutes.

My mistake ... Sorry ... You are right ... UpdateEPGOnly is correct.

Run the batch file and then go to NextPVR Settings --> About and press the button to zip the logs and attach the zipped logs to a post. Thanks.

Post the logs and I'll tell you why.

Here are the log files. I waited approx. 15 min., the EPG looks a bit more complete to me, but half of the 60 channels is still empty.

It spends one minute on each frequency you've got TV channels on. You've got quite a few channels, so at the time you zipped up the logs it was still busy doing the EPG update, which probably explains why you still had empty channels. Everything appeared to be going ok though.

PHP Code:
It spends one minute on each frequency you have got TV channels on. You have got quite a few channels

OK, I thought it would only update the "missing entries", but it updates the complete database instead...which actually makes sense, in case some program that was already "captured" changed. OK then, I will create a task in my task scheduler running my autoupdateEPG.bat with the switch Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed activated and I hope all wil now run smoothly.

My batch file is:

Code:
"C\:Program Files (x86)%\NPVR\nextpvr.exe" -UpdateEPGOnly

Thanks a lot for now to all of you guys! Smile

There is one too many % signs in that command ...
