I'll look into why it didn't note the "(503) Service Unavailable" in that red error text.

Yes, that's how I did it - thanks!

According to SiliconDust, it'll be one of these:
ie, all tuners in use, or it was unable to find the channel at that time, or it was copy protected.

There was was nothing else in use (just NextPVR recording) and there is no copy protection.

The transmission is analogue via aerial and is free for all UK residents.
My HDHomerun has never failed to pick up a signal.

There is something else going on. Did you read BrettB's comments?

cheers,
J.

I can definitely see that "(503) Service Unavailable" message from the HDHR, so it's the HDHR that had decided it couldn't fulfil the request.

Was 54 the correct channel number? ie, asking for a channel number it cant supply was one of the things that result in a 503.

at NShared.Shim.InputSourceHTTP.WorkerThread()

Otherwise if you can find a repeatable sequence, we could see if we can get some logs from the HDHR for more info about why it return 503.

Yes, 54 was the correct channel number (Paramount). It has recorded from 54 correctly since those failures.

I'll left you know if it happens again.

cheers,
J.

I get these

[73] System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (503) Service Unavailable.
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at NShared.Shim.InputSourceHTTP.WorkerThread()

on a few weak channels and this is always returned.

Yep, could be weak channel. SiliconDust indicated they'd return a 503 in they couldn't get program info from the stream with 5 seconds.

If you view the HDHomeRun web page for the device while NextPVR is trying to use the channel, it shows you what the tuners are doing, including the signal lock and quality.

So I can see that my HDHomerun is also giving the same error message, so it does look like this is outside of NextPVR's hands.

...having said that, I was doing a test and had both Plex and NextPVR recording the same two shows (at the same time - but that was a co-incidence). Both Plex recordings worked, both NextPVR's failed with the same error message. ...is it possible that Plex started and locked just before NextPVR did and that NextPVR somehow couldn't see that the channels were available, but using the "other" tuner?

Later, I did another recording and both Plex and NextPVR recorded successfully, but that was a single show and my HDHomeRun has 2 tuners - it;'s too late tp see whether both tuners were locked to the same channel for both to record. ...I will do this again to see....
