Ok I think I've got it. Do you already have dotnet installed /usr/share/dotnet ? It is possible the MS script I called won't download it again.

If you do could if you run

sudo ln -s /user/share/dotnet /opt/dotnet

does it help?

that did it. However, please note I installed dotnet on my own after it failed to work at initial install (you can see in the console log this was my meager attempt at solving the problem myself). I think the issue is the .deb file does not install dotnet successfully. Also for those reading this thread please note the correct command above should be

sudo ln -s /usr/share/dotnet /opt/dotnet

thanks for the weekend help. I just donated $50. Smile

I did not see the dotnet install in the log either let me check if something changes

Edit yes the location for the MS file did get redirected I have to put in a fix. There should have been an error in the stderr log.

sorry you are correct, i did not scroll back far enough in what i zip'd up for you.

my steps to produce this problem were:
  • clean install of Ubuntu 16.04 server with defaults + ssh enabled
  • installed nextpvr as per https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=59390
  • saw it did not find /opt/dotnet as per syslog
  • installed dotnet 2.2. as per https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/li...dk-2.2.402
  • restarted nextpvr, still saw the /opt/dotnet issue, then posted here for help
it is possible that the initial npvr install did install dotnet properly. when i did the apt-get for dotnet as per the msft site it definitely changed files/did real work. However I can't say for sure if your deb file did install dotnet and just missed the link.

If you are itching to know the answer to this i can install again from scratch but not tonight. for now i'm happy (it's running) but I appreciate the desire to have easily reproducible bugs.  LMK.

The installer was clearly failing for me because of the change in the location, nothing you did.

If you want to test it cleanly now remove both dotnet folders you have and use this deb installer

nextpvr-helper.deb SHA256: 3623815B9C3FB2721AADAC6FD1142DBBB66A81FB4A2CBEF670EC286B23683162

I recommend getting Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

One nice thing about linux is that older versions stay supported (16 LTS has a few years left).  On x86-64 there is no specific reason to upgrade that I can think. In any case that wasn't the problem here.
