Possible to record in different format than .ts files?

Take a recording download a file called ts4np and run it through that. https://www.videohelp.com/software/TsRemux (down a little) you can use tsremux too but ts4np should do the job. I found your sample had the DVB subtitles showing by default and ts4np fixed it for me. My computer monitor is 4k too but I didn't have the black issues you are talking about with the original file.

Have you tried testing your theory by manually converting one of the files to .mp4 or .mkv and playing it?
ie by running: "C:\Program Files (x86)\NPVR\Other\ffmpeg.exe" -y -i "c:\somewhere\somefile.ts" -vcodec copy -acodec copy "c:\somewhere\somefile.mkv" This will remux the file to an .mkv, without re-encoding it, so should still have the same broadcast quality (and encoding parameters etc)
I have tried converting the .ts file to an mpg and using VLC but can't be sure I didn't change other parameters. For what it's worth it did make the file perfectly playable.
Your command line command above didn't work due to error. I copied ffmpeg.exe and the .ts file to c: and just ran: ffmpeg.exe -y -i test.ts -vcodec copy -acodec copy test.mkv I haven't had time to look at the parameters for ffmpeg.exe yet so haven't figured out what the errors are. EDIT: I have managed to execute the command and produced the mkv file but it still has the black screens.

There are MPEG2 Audio stream # 202 MPEG2 Audio stream # 206 AVC Video Stream # 201 I'm assuming I need to deselect one of the audio streams to remove the subtitles?Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion Martin but it made no difference to the playback.
I have used VLC to upscale the same .ts file to 4K resolution and that plays back OK on the TV.
That supports my earlier view that it is an issue with upscaling on all 3 TVs that I have tried in combination with streams from a particular multiplex. Lot's of differences. The main one I see is the change in audio format maybe try
ffmpeg.exe -y -i filename.ts -vcodec copy -acodec mp2 audiotest.ts If that doesn't work on your original file you the source from tsn4p. For me the bottom line is that most TV's have crappy video player h/w and they use different tech then they use for OTA video playback. I'd always recommend a standalone player over the built in for anything but basic playback. Martin

In the "digital recorder settings" dialog it appears that you can click on the channel (BBC1HD is a problem for me) and then it opens up a dialog called "edit digital channel". This dialog shows the video format of the stream but it looks like you can change this format.
What should I look out for here? If I change a channel to, say, "mpeg2 HD" from "H.264 HD", will this work and will I still be able to watch programs that are still recording, and skip ahead etc.? |
