Does this channel never get listings in NextPVR?

well I just loaded ver 5 on this unused computer with w10 ver 20h2 so "never" does not cover a lot of time.  24 hours now.  Yes in this virgin setup I made all channels dvb/epg from the get go.

That said WGRZ 2.1 always has EPG data when viewed on ATSC Tv sets, So do its 3 sub channels ANTENNA, CRIME and QUEST.

One thing that is different about 2.x, 4.x, 7.x american channels might be the signal strength versus the canadian channels like CBLT, CFTO, CBLFT, CITS, CII, CITY.  The canadian channels are line of sight about 30km antenna to tower, while the American channels are 80 km away across Lake Ontario. However in all cases I have a steady watchable tv signal with no dropouts.  Being the 3 major american networks.. my "users" would have been having fits years ago if these channels were unwatchable and I would be back on cable or satellite.  That said i am not qualified to comment if signal strength affects EPG data.

Since it's only a test machine, can you delete all the channels other than the 2.x ones, restart (to reset the logs), then hit the 'update epg' button and repost the logs?

well the number "two" might be significant.   after the first channel scan on the device and the following first epg update i was puzzled at the lack of data on WGRZ 2.1 and ANTENNA 2.2 epg. and thrilled about the 3.5 days of data on CBLT 5.1.

So not knowing what else to do I ran a second channel scan and from there did a number of epg updates but they all came back identical over 12 hours.

Is it possible the second channel scan duplicated 2.1 etc in the database? and is causing what you see?

That is another possibllity.  I guess the answer depends on whether there is a built in state checker on the update epg buttons and if it works or not.  If the state is "currently scanning" it should prevent the start of the second update/scan.  you see this comment of yours also sounds familiar as I recall I started a update after a channel scan.. moved the mouse off the npvr tab to somewhere else and came back and the update status screen had just vanished... so I pushed start a scan again..   In fact I just tried the same now and it accepted my duplicate command with no complaint.  So I imagine there are 2 updates now running.. but there is no way for me to verify this.  I guess this is up to sub when he reviews the GUI in the future.

Yes you need to be patient during scans. Perhaps open a different browser for the scan it will take as long as v4. I'd delete npvr.db3 and restart the service for a clean test.

Hi Sub.  I had a eureka moment as I went to do your request.

You see my annual airvpn subscription came up for renewal and it reminded me of a trouble ticket I posted back in april 2020. They have an installer issue in their current "stable" package 2.18.9 that I found.  their installer malfunctions if it is run from any account other than the admininstrator account on a win 10 pc. (run in adminstrator mode does not help)  Things like certain packages fail to install, or if they do install the main app that needs them does not know the required packages are already there and shortcuts fail to install in the start menu pointing to any of their code.

I noticed that I could not find any shortcuts in the start menu for nextpvr.. and i had installed ver 5 in one of the local user accounts on this pc.. not the admin account.  So I figured the nextpvr installer might just be having a similiar windows permission problem to airvpn.. so I thought what the heck... wipe it and start over.  I told it to remove the app and all its data entirely from the local user account (I have 3 Local accounts)... switched to the admin account... reinstalled, scanned channels and updated epg.  (I dont use the admin account for apps due to security considerations on any of my pcs.  PS. I have been running ver 4 from a local user account for several years)

surprise... now it shows 2 shortcuts in the start menu... client and webapp.  Even better... all channels have correct DVB/EPG info with the shortest duration being between 9-22 hours on some american networks and 2 to 3.5 days on the canadian channels.  That is pretty decent given that its free.  So 2 updates per day are all one needs to keep it almost current, 3 would be ideal.

I will attach my log files here... but I would say this post should be considered closed for now.  the dvb/epg is now working from the admin account. You might add looking at the installer to your wish list for future. Thank you for looking at this with me.

Edward
