That logic that skips transcode should only end up happening with IPTV, which is unlikely to be using an interlaced format.

One thing I noticed with the successful conversions is that the MP4 files are in 1080 resolution (same resolution as the broadcast).  Is the 'Recording Auto Transcode' option supposed to convert them to 720.. if '720' is specified?

Generally that is true, but not always. For the most part this feature was about converting recordings into a format that was more compatible with streaming in the web app, to improve playback there. If it detects it's already a good format for streaming, it can sometimes decide not to transcode.

Thanks for the clarification.  I tested more today, with several short recordings and one 4 hr recording.  All were transcoded successfully to MP4 format.  I'm OK with the 1080 resolution, as it works fine with the web browser (on the local network at least).  One great thing about the NVIDIA transcoding process is that the files are approximately 40% smaller than the CPU transcoded files.

Didn't think of that, his 8 GB for one hour made me assume broadcast, that's the trouble without logs.

You made the right assumption. The recordings are broadcast - MPEG-2 1080i.  The device/tuner is a Hauppauge HVR-2250 (2 tuners).

Given the bitrate and resolution aren't provided,  the difference might not be the h/w transcoding.

All of todays recordings were transcoded to MP4 format, just not to 720.  I suspect the earlier recordings I did yesterday were not transcoded because I didn't realize there were 2 copies of that DLL.  I initially only replaced one of them.

You're right.  The NVIDIA transcoded files have an approx. Data rate of 2100 kbps and a Total bitrate of 2220 kbps.  The CPU transcoded files have an approx. Data rate of 3640 kbps and a Total bitrate of 3770 kbps.  The rest of the stats are the same (frame rate, audio, and length).

Sub probably needs to adjust that up a little. That isn't HD even by Netflix low standards. Likely fine for local CTV news.
