If you go the mobile version route, have a look and see if your MB can support it. With some MBs it will treat the mobile version as an 800MHz cpu... not very fast.

FYI: I have 2 mobile 2600s in my server setup and they do post at 800MHz. I have installed software that runs as a service to set the CPUs to run at their stock speed of 2000MHz. Works great!

What kind of software can over-ride the BIOS, increase the FSB and multiplier, and actually run a cpu faster?
That's a trick... Big Grin
Have you ever tested to see if it's actually running at the proper speed?
If it is, I'd really like to know how software can do that from within Windows.
You can never have enough tuners!

Hehe -- Yes I have, and if you think about it, it makes sense.

The trick is that it only works with the mobile processors -- you know, the ones with that technology that changes the clock speed of the CPU based on the load etc, so that it doesn't wear down the batteries. Since my server has mobile CPUs in it, I can run it anywhere from 800MHz all the way up to 2,000MHz. Since it must run within the limitations of the CPU, overclocking is not possible (my CPUs are 2,000MHz by default).

Here are some nifty links for you:

CrystalCPUID: http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en
(Can change the multiplier for AMD chips with PowerNow! capability)

WCPUCLK: http://www.myplc.com/sony/bin/wclk130.zip
(Shows the real speed that the CPU is running. Often, utilities will report the boot MHz, not the actual MHz. This one gets it right esp when using the above utility)
